Is Charizard king solely because of popularity?

Hey everyone, sorry if this has been asked before.

It peaked my interest recently why Charizard cards are always so expensive compared to the rest of the set, despite often not being any rarer than other holos (Speaking mostly for 1st ed, shadowless, base). Theres even more psa 10 Charizard than some of the other holos in those set from what I have seen on the pop report from psa.

Is it driven purely on popularity/demand or am i missing something?

Blastoise being my favorite i’m quite okay with him steadily increasing and not getting too out of touch price wise. But i can’t help but think ‘‘what if the community all wanted blastoise, would he be the one worth 44,000+ in psa 10 and so on?’’

Blue & Red (charizard) GB game improved popularity, I think a good contender during 1998 might have been Mewtwo, just because he was so powerful in the game, but I think Charizard Base card pushed him over the edge. I don’t know why later (modern era) why Charizard is even popular.

It has been scientifically proven that Charizard is the most powerful pokemon, so he commands the best price.
