Japanese Pikachu XY-P Promo 279 release info + indent grade

Hi all,

Looking to try to find some more information regarding the Pikachu XY-P Promo 279, an absolutely beautiful card.

According to Bulbapedia:
“In Japan, this card was given to participants of the 20th Anniversary Festa, held at Toki Messe, Niigata on October 10, 2016 and at the Nagoya Trade & Industry Center, Nagoya on October 23, 2016.”

From nintendowire.com:
“A special edition Pikachu full art card will also be given out to those competing in the tournament which features all three Kanto starters and the 20th Anniversary logo!”

It seems like there were separate card prizes for the winners consist of special Trainer cards featuring gold, silver and bronze rings, so it seems the 279 XY-P was a participation card that all the competitors received? Any more information would be greatly appreciated (number of participants, etc.)!

I’m also curious how much an indent/damage on the edge of a card would lower the grade? Below is a link with some pictures.

Thanks in advance!

Here’s more information, you can use google translate to get it in English:
www.pokemon-card.com/20th/event/20th-festa/

Yes, the 279 Pikachu was a participation card, and the victory rings with the 20th anniversary stamp is the trophy cards for the event:

I don’t have the numbers of participants, but I do know that 2 events is ridiculously little in comparison to previous events, making the 279 pikachu card more difficult to get than the previous festa pikachus.

Note that these are not the only cards you can get from this specific event; there are other 20th anniversary cards specifically stamped for this event:

**Pokemon Card Game Showa VS Heisei Great Battle:**If you win, you get this card:

The amount of points accumulated can be traded in for these cards during the event:

I’m no expert in grading though, so I’ll let someone else answer your other question. I do know for sure that the indent would absolutely lower the grade, the question is really how much it gets lowered by.

That was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, definitely very helpful!

From the site provided Google translates the following:

"Everyone who comes to the venue will receive an original Kira card “Pikachu” as a gift!
"
“This gift is limited to one per person per day.”

At least per the translation seems like even people who walked in to watch might have gotten one, and since there were two days of the event it might have been possible to get more than one, or at least until they ran out. Would be amazing to hear from someone who had been at the event.

Always interesting to learn more about these Japanese releases!

Yes, you can technically get 2 if you went to both events, but do note that they are not close to each other. Toki Messe and Nagoya Fukiage Hall is roughly 480km or 298 miles apart, in completely different prefectures. It’s definitely doable to do this, but monetarily wise unless you want to participate also in the tournament it would not be worth the train or car ride to ONLY get the promo as the promo back then was roughly 30$ in value, and probably less at the event if you bought it from a participant.

@nuttun, Ah did not know they were so far apart geographically, probably was not worth it at the time. Interesting to know the price history of the card was just about $30 back then. Over a year ago when I first saw this card, I recall it was already quite expensive, but recently the prices have gone up quite a bit more, as with everything else. It’s also very popular in Japan from what I can tell. Thanks again!

Anyone know the location of a 3rd place victory ring that may be for sale or trade?
