Hi all, I’ve searched high and low before posting this so please don’t flame if it’s been asked somewhere before, I truly did look!
I’m trying to find the value for the first Japanese set of Jumbo Flash-Style cards that teach you how to play the game and what these cards are worth individually. The set included Bulbasaur, Pika, Squirtle, Sudowoodo, Sentret, Geodude, Growlithe, Jynx, Doduo and Nidoran Male. I know these are rare but I have to assume that at least a few sets or singles have sold privately. What is the official name for these? Having that might help because I’ve searched eBay and the web without much luck. Any insight would be appreciated, thank you
These are pretty rare/scarce items. For the longest time their release was speculated. They infrequently appear so value is going to be abstract. I remember being offered $500 each when I had the only known set. More have appeared since then, but inconsistently.
Thanks for the insight, even if it’s abstract at least it’s clear that the value is still there. I was unsure what to expect as as I’d paid quite a lot for mine a long time ago. I have intentions of selling them in the very near future to fund other aspects of my collection so I suppose we will see what the market says in due time.
@pumpkins Are you only looking to sell it as complete set? Because if not I’m very interested in the Pikachu. Also, which of the Teach Sets are we talking about here? The three Pikachus from Teach Sets I know about are:
2000 version:
2008 version:
2010 version:
I already have the 2000 version, but am still missing the other two.
EDIT: Never mind. I just noticed you list the ones in the set, which correspond to the 2000 version (which I already have).
If it helps anything, I paid 200 USD for the Pikachu. I also know that @ssjc recently bought the set in partially played condition; @lexleo tried to sell the set about halve a year ago for 1k USD (no idea if he did); and @ocghp also had the full NM/M set on eBay about halve a year ago (which did sell if I recall correctly, not sure anymore for how much).
Oh. Indeed a small world then. Sorry you kinda regret breaking up the set, but I honestly can’t thank you enough that you did! As a Pikachu collector, and a real sucker for any variation of the Base Pikachu, I wanted this Pikachu Teach Set from the 2000 set the most out of the three. It’s still one of the highlights of my Jumbo part of my collection. So thank again for selling it to me (and good luck with the sale of the rest in the near future).
Ah no worries! I’m happy to have helped you fill out your collection. I’m sure I’ll find a home for the rest of these when the time comes. Hopefully you’re able to track down the other Teach Pikachu’s and finish off your set Thanks for the well wishes!
The more I find out about how irreplaceable they are the less I want to sell them, lol They remind me of a time in Pokemon that has long been gone.
Inevitably they will find their way to eBay though, freeing up the funds for the numerous things I have going on and want to buy would be nice. I have a few rare items in my collection I could let go of instead but they have much more sentimental value to me than these.
Thanks for all of the help guys, you’ve all been extremely helpful and welcoming.
Not sure if this is the right place for this but the bullet has been bit and I put all nine of these up individually, I guess we’ll see what someones willing to pay!
