Maybe it’s nostalgia for summer days spent in Chicago when I was an Irish 20-something on work experience. Opening packs of base, fossil and jungle. A few weeks back, I was in my local store with my son and noticed two pokemon packs for the price of one (Darkness Ablaze and Rebel Clash). Bough a few…
Ended up falling down a rabbit hole. I’m 400 euro deep now and looking for advice. As someone who is only going to play with a few basic decks, what is the best strategy for selling the rares/V/VMAX/Reverse Holos/Rainbows?
So we are just starting a new rotation for 2021 and of course all current cards are legal and probably will be for another year after.
From what I understand, it is nest for me to simply sit on these cards for a year and then sell when the SS, RC and DA stuff is harder to find in stores but is still tourney legal. What about commons and uncommons? Bulk sell?
Any good candidates in the last few sets for grading? I did pull 2 Charizards.
Rule of thumb would be to sell anything “playable” ASAP, while people are looking for those cards to build their decks. eBay is a good place to start, but Facebook groups and reddit are better for lower-value items since the buyer assumes the PWE shipping risk there. I’m not sure how coronavirus is affecting sales of playable cards, though. It’s possible the prices on those cards could go up once tournaments resume and folks are able to actually go out and play with other people.
The modern PSA market is in a pretty irrational spot right now. People are paying hundreds of dollars for PSA 10 versions of cards that come from packs you can still find in stock for retail prices. I fear the PSA backup is creating artificial scarcity here (in a more pronounced way than in vintage). You could try sending modern cards off for grading, but prices will likely crash by the time you get them back. I would recommend using Beckett or CGC to get your 10s back faster, so you can unload them before the flood of modern PSA cards hits the market.
As a non-player, it’s really hard to know what cards are playable. I’ve been looking at top decks on YouTube but it’s time consuming. Is there a resource that lists the top meta decks? I saw OmniPoke have a set review where they review every card from 1-5, 5 being best.
For example, I have 3 Centiscorch VMax. They are easy sales, right?
Hi all,
So having spent close to 1,000 euro on RC and DA (about 200 double blisters), I find myself with countless cards including 3 Charizard VMAX and I am very close to a full set of both expansions.
I’m new so I could really do with some guidance from people who have been doing this for far longer.
Should I look to complete the set for an eventual sale or do sets sell for less than the sum of their parts? Also, is it best to simply hold onto the cards for a year or so?
