Hi everyone, wanted to discuss the sales/trends of Illustrator Pikachu compared to past sales.
Latest result : PSA 8.5 300 K
for the last two years lol
Here’s a current big one
I feel the floor on the Illustrator for raw near mint condition is around 250 K nowadays. However, most Japanese sellers not willing to let go for less than 40 million yen at least. Last PSA 8 sold for 305 K so the buyer got a steal on the PSA 8.5 for 300 K as it once sold for 570 K. However, one can see that as entire TCG market has dipped, the Illustrator has dipped by about 40-50% as well!!
Well the overall economy isn’t super strong rn so not as many ppl dumping 6 figures on tcg. With such a small buyer pool this matters a whole lot. Not sure why ppl want to offload them all now? Granted idk what they paid to get them so it could be worth it or maybe they’re just not beliebers
I feel that supply will dry up soon on the Illustrator and the “true” collectors will hold on to them over next 5-10 yrs which will cause the demand to surge and increase the price. Diamond Hands All Day !!
The label colors work extremely well with that card

The amount of illustrators sold in the past two years is probably greater than the total amount sold in the previous 22 years. I’m surprised it hasn’t gone down more. Maybe that is because I want to pick up one for a binder! 
I don’t blame Japanese owners for not budging on their price. Last years wave of supply was unprecedented.

Totally agree with you. The supply of illustrators for 2023 was 7 via various auction houses eg. Goldin, Heritage, PWCC while prior to that only 1-2 showed up in public for period of 20 yrs!! I feel the bottom has been reached at 250 K for raw near mint ungraded illustrator copy. Personally if I owned a copy I wouldn’t let go for less than half a million in near mint condition.

There’s 60 or so of these out there that we know of…I do wonder how many are in “forever” collections like @smpratte vs how many are still in hot potato mode

I think there were 64 total printed on a 8*8 sheet.
39 officially awarded copies and 25 extra staff copies.
