What item(s) in your collection do you adore despite not being the most expensive/popular/beautiful?
It’s these guys for me. Neo Discovery is my favorite set. Plus, I love Natu and Unown. Plus, they’re square cut. Plus, they’re the only Beckett cards in my collection. They’re definitely the weirdest and technically rarest cards I own. I think they’re so cool.
Champions festivals. I don’t think they have moved much at all compared to other cards during this boom, but the 2016 and 2019 ones are some of my favorites in the hobby.
Not a card or anything, but my manager got me this as a souvenir while working over here in Japan. The candy that was inside was delicious, but the metal container won me over big time. There is something about it that I just love. Simplicity, art, all of it i guess.
I love how it’s just all of these adorable cute pokemon, then all of a sudden gengar and snorlax appear.
Just a great little thing. Other notable items would just be cards I’ve had since I was a kid. Absolutely demolished Dark Espeon, for example.
I think it so fitting that natu and unown be ones that got cut into squares. Like they are ancient and cryptic so therefore the tome-like permanence of their cuts seems monolithic to me. Awesome.
My jumbo TOMY Pikachu plush are my favorites. Was recently able to add the Giant to my collection, but I have had the one on the right since I was around 5 years old, and he will always be my #1 pokemon item.
I like my PSA 4-5-6-7 Charizard (graded them myself in my first PSA submission which made me realize; graded cards aren’t for me), but if the price increase is going to trickle down to the lower grades they might gonna leave the box they are hold in.
My original 5 cards that inspired my Gyarados collection. I also have the Mega Gyarados box, figurine, and card that was gifted to me by a bunch of E4 members on a particularly hard year. Those things I’ll forever treasure no matter what.
For me it’s the 1st Edition Machamp card I found among my things at my parents house. This was the literally only card that survived from my childhood collection, and I’ll never forget that!
Although I do love my BGS black label 10 version the most of my Moltres WotC collection, I recently also graded the card I received at the cinema as a kid for nostalgia sake, and which started my love for this artwork from back then, all the way to the present.
I could have removed some of those black dirt marks at the left side before sending it in, but I felt like it made it more authentic of it being the one that started it all. So I left those there and they graded it as is. I guess a 4 is still not too bad considering I’ve received this card 20 years ago when I was 8 years old, and I’ve re-organized my collection over a hundred times as a kid. I always had a different sorting order: sometimes by type; sometimes by national index; sometimes by rarity; sometimes by set, haha.
I actually appreciate this thread so much. I have plenty of cards like this and this stuff inspires me to get some of my meaningful to me cards graded. I started collecting with my grandmother back in base set and I still have alot of those old cards. They may not be Mint but they are LP and so many memories like going to the card store to get the final card to complete my base set. I know there is a couple Shuckle (my favorite Pokemon) I need to get graded.
