Hello Everyone!
A bit of background on myself. I am a vintage collector from back in the day. When pokemon first hit I got into the collecting side while my son(at the time8 yrs old) was caught up in the craze.
I had never seen anything like the Pokemon craze since Cabbage patch dolls in the 80s.
I jumped right on board as the cards were stunning!.
I opened boxes and blisters of every set from jungle 1st edition to the last Neo 1st edtion set.
I was offered a 1st edition base set from a teenager during all this and even though it was not pack fresh it was in fantastic shape. Then I collected the japanese sets the exact same way from packs to pages never removing the cards once from the page.
My intention to page the cards and wait 25 years and then sell the entire collection off.
Can anyone here speculate what the percentage would be that even with all the miscuts or rough edges from the manufacturer what is the likelihood that most would PSA as a 10?
Has anyone come across a collector like myself with this many sets never touched for 25 years?
I am trying to evaluate the potential worth of this collection
Any thoughts?
Thanks for listening
Cat
I saw a Near Mint 1st ed Base complete set go for about £25k not too long ago.
Japanese sets are for the most part quite a bit cheaper than English (an exception to that would be the Japanese neo 3/4 shinings, from neo rev/destiny).
If you have 1st ed jungle - neo Destiny in near mint (excluding base) condition id say easily looking at $50k+ just for English.
Condition plays a huge part on in the valuation of cards so your best bet is to take a dropbox and fill it with images of the big cards from each set with front and back photos, so people can help better.
Also ignore most DMS as people will be wanting to pay you pennies on the dollar.
If I were you I’d get in touch with an auction service like Goldin or Heritage who will make it way easier for you to sell, likely they would do it set by set and get you the best amount.
Post front and backs of a few of them here so we can get an idea on average condition. I recommend grading the holos and selling them individually as graded cards.
For most holos, the answer is very very low. Price out your holos at PSA 7-8 and that should give you a rough estimate of value after grading your NM raw cards. I would be shocked if your holos received PSA 9-10 grades.
will do that after the police are finished fingerprinting the cards that were stolen. Ugh. Manufacturing process Rough cuts aside i am not being hyperbolic about the cards never being removed from the packs and directly into the pages either. these cards have not been touched in 25 years. LOL
Hopefully you have some kind of photos of the cards before they were taken, with collectibles its really difficult to prove worth based on specific conditions.
I would like to think that the rest of the collection some 15000 cards all in the exact same mint condition from pack to page is proof enough that the ones missing would be in the same condition. LOL
