memorabilia / video games ?

What’s your guys opinion on memorabilia and video game collecting in regards to Pokémon?

Somebody local is selling a Groudon gameboy advance SP along with the Japanese version of Blue and Silver (Games are Cib console loose) for like $170 total. Seems pretty awesome to have but I have no idea about pricing on stuff like this or how to tell if the games are legit.

What you guys think

You can always use a quick eBay completed listings search. Your best bet.

Yeah I was just asking pretty much as for as long term

Yeah I think the price as of today is fair but I was asking as far as long term value I guess on items like that.

Honestly… I’ve been buying up video games some CIB some sealed some graded and consoles and I find they’re under valued / still affordable for me to decide to “overpay” with few comps (especially in the graded categories) so don’t stress it too much it’s legit something that comes down to buy what you like and want to collect and what you are comfortable paying… I don’t think that market is mature or anywhere near even being mature to the point you have anything to benchmark against… so if it’s from a purely speculative perspective… I really can’t help you  there’s just so many “holy grails” that are personal to everyone

For Japanese games and console units I would recommend skipping the man in the middle and go onto Buyee and get your stuff straight off Yahoo! Auctions.

If you’re asking about long term value, Atari 2600 was big money and then then tanked for the most part as the 2600 collector group did not expand. But, from NES on, the graphics are good enough for any generation to enjoy and they continue developing 1080 options through hardware and software. I sold most of my highest value PS1 games after the high price spike around the same time Pokemon jumped this year. Gamevaluenow.com is a better search tool to compare recent comps. Pokémon in general has jumped quite a bit recently—at least a few specific ones like Leaf and Crystal. The same principals apply re: which Gen of games or systems correlate to which age group that want to buy their faves back and get the feels. You have to decide, long term, if you think hardware will hold value as many of the newer collectors don’t want the physical volume to burden their spaces, and they may not have that sentimental attachment. A “trophy” piece or two to display, yes, for sure a safe bet for anyone. As in Pokemon there are many factors that contribute to where $ value may or may not be. I’m personally holding my NES through N64 as hardware gold, the accessories (controllers, etc) as gold, and the disc based games up to PS3 as something I will mostly sell other than games I love to play too much to sell. There will continue to be ports and remakes, so the question is for you to determine if you think having and collecting original hardware (even as display pieces) is worth it enough to collectors to have “value” Many people are on the sealed games boat, but it can be spendy to buy in if you don’t think it’s a good risk for you.
