Hi everybody. I’ve not long started my Mew collection and was wandering what are the must have cards. Eventually I hope to own them all but I’m looking for a good place to start. At the moment I’m on the market for the Mew 007 Japanese play promo psa 10. If anybody could shine some light on its price point it would be appreciated as I’m struggling to find much sales data.
So far I own:
Ancient mew 1 (corrected) psa 10
1996 carddass vending Mew (Red) psa 10
Corocoro shining Mew ungraded
Ancient Mew 2 ungraded
Eventually i am looking to own all variants in psa 10.
The more niche the better as my knowledge is limited due to my lack of time spent back in the hobby.
I know I seen it earlier. Its quite the spectrum. I was wandering if the range in price had anything to do with the centering of the cards? The card at the top of the spectrum looks to be perfect whereas the $700 card looks like it scraped past the 60/40 front and 75/25 back.
I want to say yes the centering plays a role but I’m no expert on that but judging by a few of those lower priced Mew cards the back of those cards do look slighly off center so that could be the reason but maybe @smpratte can give a better reason/more detail since he appears to have the perfect card out of the others.
Glad to have been some help for you. I pretty much collect anything Mew related like the cards, plushies, clothing etc lol. But as far as cards go I’m pretty much after all them but the next one on my list to buy is the Ancient Mew Nintedo Error.
My gf thinks I’m a bit obsessed lol.
But as for the Ancient Mews, that would be up to you if you think they’re a must have in the collection. I mean if your on the more serious collector side I’d say yeah it would be nice to have them all.
But imo I think only the error is the one worth having more. But again, entirely up to you decide on that one.
@daanny, You need the Japanese Gotta Mew. It’s a “glossy” variant of the #8 black star promo mew, but was released in japan on glossy card stock in English with the Gotta magazine. It’s very niche, but a rare card none the less. Search it on eBay and see for yourself. I have a PSA 9 and the pop for PSA 10 I think is 2. I knew the guy that graded one of the 10’s and he sold it for over a 1000 bucks I think. Good luck with that one!
Even more rare is the Gotta Pikachu, which is the same thing, but French instead. I also have that graded a PSA 9.
But congrats on the cards you already have. Especially the Ancient Mew I (corrected) in PSA-10, since that one was the most difficult to find and most expensive of the four I have above.
And when you decide to start collecting all Mew cards, you could contact @skinst (who collects all English and Japanese Mew cards, including sealed cards and products) or @lof102 (who collects all Mew cards in all languages), whom are both big Mew collectors here on the forum and who could probably provide you with a list of all existing Mew cards.
Enjoy your stay, and good luck with your collection goals!
Ahh I forgot about the Western release. Wow that’s a nice collection, I’m envious.
Thanks. It took me a long long time to find the card. Saying there’s almost 300 psa 10s it almost never hits the open market. Do you think people just hold onto them or do you think a lot were misidentified due to psa having no discrepancies early on?
I may hit them up to try and gather some knowledge for the future. Thanks for the pointer.
Good luck on your collection goals too. Have a good day.
Yeah, it’s indeed odd there aren’t that many popping up considering the reasonably high POP report for this PSA-10 card. I have the feeling someone just graded loads early on and still has them stored away somewhere perhaps.
