Thoughts on mint blister packs as an investment vs. regular boosters? They seem to go for a decent premium at the moment - maybe as high as double for some packs. Anyone have some insight about blister packs? What’s their supply like compared to boosters? It seems condition is often bad with these as they are easy to damage and crease.
Not matter how they are stored it’s only a matter of time until the glue fails holding the plastic on the cardboard. Now this can be prolonged for probably awhile with proper storage and I think they are super cool but for me personally I don’t collect them anymore.
E-series are a bit different if I remember correct?
Here’s my opinion on the topic. The glue will degrade on blisters and leave them as single packs. However I think that if stored properly they glue can last many years into the future. As unfortunate as it is the risk of weighed packs and resealed packs is only going to increase as time progresses. It is extremely hard to weigh blister packs which can make them a choice for people over single packs in the future. However on the other hand if the glue degrades blisters also have the risk to be resealed with it being very hard to see if it has or hasn’t. In the end blisters have their advantages and disadvantages.
People buy blisters for their appearance and nostalgia compared to a sealed pack. As a kid many of us didn’t crack boxes. We ran into a toys r us and grabbed a blister or two. Blisters have a great display value and even if the glue degrades I think that the people who buy blisters don’t buy blisters for their contents but rather for their visual appeal. I don’t see a blister ever going below the value of its respective sealed pack. Blisters are just rarer then packs and rarity ands value.
I’ve never had a single issue with E-series blisters. E blisters were made very well. In all honesty, I’ve never had an issue with any of my blisters and the glue coming off, and I have a closet full of ex, wotc, DP, Platinum, HGSS and BW blisters. The third party blisters have trouble though.
Laying the blisters flat instead of having them displayed helps! A dark room with ventilation is also needed. I would say that blisters would be a much better buy than loose boosters.
Store them on their backs with a nice weight around the perimeter of the plastic and they’ll be fine.
I like blisters cause they normally have nice colorful artwork plus, investment wise, they are much rarer.
People also make the mistake of constantly handling the blisters and showing them to people. This most likely will cause damage no matter how careful you are. It’s best to just tuck them away and keep them there. I look at them but I don’t ever handle them.
Blisters are 100% better value/investments, although I feel like the $100 price range for jungle/fossil will be pretty stagnant for a while. Iv never bought the eseries
The artwork/appeal of blisters is great. Tells a great story and is very nostalgic for me. I think long term (even today), selling loose packs does not bring a premium. I have no desire to buy a loose/weighed pack
How much are you looking to spend though? Would it be worth it to buy a base or first Ed box instead?
Mint blister >>>> loose packs
I just picked up 4 ex dragon frontier blisters for around $800 which is why I asked. I think the sealed box for dragon frontiers is $5k+ now?
Thanks for the insights!
Interesting! How does the ventilation help? Is air con ok? Haha
The proper ventilation keeps it cool in the dark room as well. I wouldn’t want the room to get warm as warping can happen. I also find that the certain fan I use keeps the relative humidity low, which is great for cardboard of any kind.
Very interesting, where I’m from the story is reversed. Blisters were strange, exotic beasts. Boosters fished out of the booster box at the counter was all we had, usually. I’m guessing this is a regional thing. My recommendation would be to go for blisters, rarity rarely goes wrong.
As far as price goes… a while ago I got reeeeeaalll bored and decided I’d find out how much more blister packs were then boosters. This was some time between a year and a half and two years ago so this may not still be true.
I did this for every unlimited WOTC set that offered blisters. I took the last 3 sold ebay prices (excluded auctions) for both blister packs and booster packs. I averaged those 3 sales of each together and got the average selling price for them. So then for each set I averaged each percentage higher the blister sold then the loose booster. Then I averaged the number of each sets price difference more for the blister all together. On average at that time blisters sold for 135% percent more then the loose booster!
If I recall correctly legendary collection and skyridge had a big part in driving this number as high as it was. But overall it was pretty close, like someone said, most blisters are about double the price of their booster counterparts. So it may not be that exact number still but it still appears to be close.
By the way, I love blisters! I have a bunnccchhhh
I think it boils down to whether you went to a locally owned card shop or a big block retailer. I never had any local shops so every I got as a child had to be pulled from a shelf.
Yeah around double the price makes sense
It’s very exciting to get a mint blister pack. The packaging and artwork on the blisters is fantastic. The only downside is the glue doesn’t hold, but for a personal collection they are my favorite sealed item at the moment

I totally agree with the great artwork on the blister backings:) They knew they had to look great to attract eyes to the hooked offerings.
Thought these cases where a good way to hold/Display your Blisters
