Mono-pokemon collection, where to start?

I’ve recently decided to do a mono-pokemon collection about one of the most coolest pokemon of my childhood, Lapras.
It was part of the gen1 and to me it always seemed a semi-legendary pokemon (especially cause in the 1st game, Blue for me, I could only find it once time only, so it was very special like a legendary one).

But where to start? I don’t aim to collect graded cards, I prefer spend time to dig the past and start from the bottom, collecting vintage, TCG, stickers, collectible, and maybe treat myself with some cool merch.

I’ve found this guide on the forum that talks about vintage, but there are almost 30 yrs of cards to analyze and I’m pretty new in this world, even if I’ve unpacked some 1st ed myself (I live in Italy and was born in 1995, here Pokemon arrived a bit late).

I’ve started doing a list with all TCG’s cards, Bulbapedia say there are 36 cards but they are a bit more considering some jumbos, special collab (the last one is from 7eleven in Asia) and tournament promos. Can you help me find a timeline reference for the various cards?

Thanks in advace to anyone who can help!

Do you aim to collect all Lapras cards in all languages?

I am also doing a single species collection of raw, i.e. ungraded cards in all languages.

I started completing the collection first in German, then Japanese, then English and then expanded it to all languages.

Well in all languages is a bit complicate, I was thinking to first trying to complete the set in what’s avaiable in my language (italian), then expand to english and japanese, since many edition are only avaiable in a single language.
First of all I have to learn more about the timeline and understand which edition came in which year, that would be a great start.

This particular website may be useful for non-TCG Lapras items :slightly_smiling_face: Someone else had sent it to me before, and I like looking through it randomly sometimes to see the vast array of items out there (especially for Gen I pokemon).

Never too much single species collections! Hopefully you’ll share your progression and collection at some point :ok_hand:

First of all, congrats on choosing one of the coolest (literally) Pokémon for your collecting adventure ; )

I would check out the Serebii card dex. There you can find all (?) Lapras cards that were released, except for some obscure promo´s maybe.

I’ve recently started collecting items for Pidgeot and Alakazam, so I’m not stressing and I’m taking it easy. There’s no order after all, just enjoy yourself and do what you want.

As for me, I started with the TCGs, then I’m just beginning with the stickers.

Thank you everyone for the wholesome reply! I came across to another lapras collector who got the full card list, I’m waiting to receive it so I can properly start collecting! Will give you update once I’ve started, rn I only have 3 of them (all common) which I’ve pulled from single blisters, a friend of mine will provide the last teracrystal which is a huge point for me!

Don’t hesitate to make a thread of your collection, even if you’re just starting out
