Most expensive card you’ve ever lost/misplaced?

A couple months ago I thought I threw away a couple hundred dollars worth of cards. It was 3 lenticular deoxys that arrived on the day that I was moving back to college and I thought I accidentally threw them away while packing. I ended up finding them still in the mailer they shipped in amongst some greeting cards from loved ones.

It just got me thinking about the other stuff that I’ve lost/misplaced that I’ve yet to find. What are your most expensive lost/misplaced cards?

My snap Gyarados was marked as delivered but nothing was at my house, the posties scanned it without delivering it. I had to call up my local post office to track the guy down it was still in the truck thankfully.

This happened in late 2013 when I re-entered Pokemon hobby.
I bought mint Crystal Charizard from Finnish auction site and seller shipped it asap. , however he sent it inside plain white envelope instead of tracked letter that was charged in listing. We lived only ~100 kilometres apart from each other but after 3 weeks of waiting it started to seem the card had gone forever and we started talking about refund. Then finally couple days before New Year mailman delivered it to my doorstep unharmed.

Sold a PSA 10 Japanese Shining Gyarados back in 2017 shipped from UK to AUS. The card was mislabeled by PSA as ‘Red Gyarados’ and was the first PSA 10 with that label. It wasn’t delivered after 2 months and I had to refund the buyer.

Just google 60,000 pokemon card.

@cullers, no updates or leads?

It may seem hard to believe but in all my collectible years, going back to the 60s, I’ve never lost a collectible item of any noticeable value (at least that I can recall right now). A little luck and being very careful is why:)

I still don’t know where my base set Charizard and Zapdos are…the only cards that went missing from my parent’s house lol

I’ve not lost anything myself but I’ve had a fair few issues with some UK delivery companies. I think it was either Yodel or Hermes once who I had an email from to tell me my parcel had been delivered to something like 19A M… Street even though I lived at 3 C… Road. I contacted the company and they basically said all I can do is try and collect it from there myself. Turned out 19A M… Street was a 20 minute drive away and it was an office for some company whose receptionist told me they had received no other post that day and they were very confused why it had been left with them.

That’s the story of how I almost lost my - at the time pop 1 - PSA 10 Topps Pichu which I paid an extortionate £15 for.

I’ve got an ungraded gold star charizard somewhere I haven’t seen since I bought it. It’s the only card I have that I can’t think of and immediately know its location. I know it’s in my house though. Does that count as lost?

Every submission ever to PSA feels like it’s lost… does that count either haha?

Back in the early 90s-mid 2010’s, my grandpa used to go to storage unit auctions. One of the units that he bought in late 99’ or early 2000, was full of Pokemon cards. I remember seeing huge tubs plumb full of Pokemon and Magic The Gathering cards. He said he did not think the cards were worth anything, so he threw almost all of it in his dumpster. He ended up giving me three binder collections, with the Pikachu Pokedex, with the red cover, and I still own one of them. I wish that he would have let me go through all of the tubs before he threw them away, because it was all WOTC cards! Don’t know if this counts, just wanted to share.

Piggy-backing off of this, my mother sold 90% of my pokemon cards at a yardsale. Although, I didn’t care at the time, now… I. AM. SAD. They were also all WOTC base set. I’m not sure if they were 1st edition or not, though.

That is one of the worst feelings ever! Too bad our parents didn’t know better back in the day!

Does giving away my entire collection to my cousins back in the day count? I started hanging out with the cool kids and Pokemon wasn’t cool in that group so I didn’t think giving away binders full of pack pulled base set, jungle and fossil was a big deal.

I gave most of my original cards to a middle school girlfriend’s little brother for brownie points. I’m not sure a kiss on the cheek was worth 3,000 pokemon cards lol

That’s incredible, how many times have you moved since you started collecting tens of thousands of cards?

Lost my entire collection to school when i was 9 years old. Included a 1 ed charizard. Is a drama that i have yet…

Actually, something came up recently. I thought I had either given away my Southern Islands set or lost it. I had them lying around for years and never did anything with them but after the recent price hike, started looking for them again to no avail.

I went on a trip to visit some friends in Virginia this weekend and had to take out some luggage. Inside one of the carriers was a bunch of old WOTC cards I thought I had gotten rid of a few years ago - my Southern Island set was inside.

@marco, how did you lose it? :slightly_frowning_face:

I remember that there was a geography check after the recreation and in the hurry I had left them in the pocket of the jacket that had to be left outside the classroom. Someone stole them from me… :slightly_frowning_face:

When my place was robbed December 2018 I lost a

PSA 9 Crystal Lugia
PSA 7 Base Charizard (Never recovered)
PSA 9 1st Edition Shining GyaradosPSA 10 1st Edition Holo Fossil Haunter (never recovered)
PSA 9 Reverse Crystal Charizard

Recovered most of them hunting down sellers I saw who purchased them.
