hi, it seems like there isn’t a thread on multi-level marketing yet, so i’ll go ahead and start one.
just wanted to share my initial reactions:
- i was on the fence in the beginning, but the art slowly grew on me. some i am really digging now (babe the blue ox, metal man, ghost train), but some i’m still eh.
- i like the flavor texts, i like the size of the image frame compared to the text area - really shows off the art well
- i recently purchased a few cards, so i will see how the holos look up close in person
- i didn’t really know what cryptids were before multi-level marketing, and i wonder if that may be a bad thing for the game for the general audience? some of these cryptids are definitely well known and cool, and mike waddell has said, based on research, there are over 10000 cryptids so ideas shouldn’t dry up for a while
- i am not into playing the game, just collecting. i do like all the promo, sample, kickstarter and other variations. definitely has the collector in mind. however, it remains to be seen how the game will be received in the next 6-12 months. overall, i am still cautiously optimistic.
- the game-specific jargon for graveyard (cemetery), deck (page), the act of drawing a card (bookmark), etc. is a big head scratcher. i don’t know why they needed to reinvent the wheel here and create a barrier for the beginner…
- currently, i like the fact that the distribution channels are favoring LGS over big box stores, in order to build community per the creative team. i think the team behind multi-level marketing definitely has done a good job of taking the good from other TCGs and try to apply the lessons here with multi-level marketing.
- i really like the clarity on print runs for all the initial products. there are definitely some chase cards already in the hobby. the sample cards are going nuts. i am seeing several big ones hitting over $1000 for raw cards. that headless horseman is a cool looking card.
okay, that’ll do for my little mini reflection after a few days looking at this new TCG. the first expansion is coming out October, and i’m looking forward to how they are doing the release for that.
