Sup all, who else here collects music?
I’ve been collecting music for almost a decade now. I mainly collect obscure japanese techno/hardcore as well as synthwave and a bunch of videogame soundtracks (and basically a bit of everything, but mostly what I just mentioned). Most of my collection is CDs but I have a fair amount of vinyl too. One of my more prized possessions is the original soundtrack for the pokemon red / green gameboy games but the holy grail of my vgm collection has to be the Japanese Donkey Kong Country 2 soundtrack CD.
Here’s a year old photo of my CD cabinets. I need a third cabinet now for my CDs but I haven’t gotten one yet so no new picture cause it’s a bit messy right now lol.
and here’s an image of my favorite game soundtracks in my collection.
I should be getting a copy of the majora’s mask soundtrack with obi (the paper strip on the spine) as well. I like to have these kind of things complete with the obi, so much that I’d rebuy the album just to have it complete lol

I’ve got my old Victrola and like 800lbs of 78s. Does that count?
Sure thing, it’s music
Never met anyone who owns a phonograph before though lol. How’d you get into that?
Very cool. I only have a mere CD collection of about 300. I collect a lot of things (cards, video games, VHS, DVDs, CDs) so I haven’t really decided to put much effort into expanding my CD collection within the last 5 years or so. I really hope I can get back into it someday. My CD collection so far is mainly focused around metal music. I’m mainly into death and black metal. The real kind. But I also buy stuff like blues, jazz, classical, old school rap, etc. Only genres I don’t really like are R&B and anything on the radio (mainstream) pretty much.

Is that a knock on me? Lol
My dad used to call my favorites (Buddy Holly, Elvis, Beach Boys, Beatles et all) “Drug Store Cowboys”. I remember how bad that made me feel so I swore then that if I ever had kids (which I did) I would participate in and love their music no matter what. Well, I kept my word though it was hard at times (uhmm rap;)
I hope you all read that carefully. It’s a great lesson for when you get kids.

@nullifidian I just really dig old mechanical things. Have some older mechanical arcade machines too. The Victrola I found and couldn’t pass up. I haven’t listened to half the records I have, but I’ll crank it up (literally) every now and then for shits and grins. Nothing really compares to the sound.
@garyis2000 Haha, not a knock on you. Totally agree with your story though. My folks listened to the oldies/ talk radio and didn’t care much for my music. I listen to all the modern stuff still. My kids will hopefully grow to appreciate all types of music (even rap!).

Very nice. I was thinking about posting my music the other day.
Apart from cards and some other things, I also collect Jamaican music, mainly on vinyl and some on CD.
Here is my main area in a bit of a state. I also have another of these cabinets full of albums and a few more boxes of 7".
Jamaican music has a lot of quirks just like pokemon cards. In the below image, the bottom left record is a original jamaican release (compared to an original japanese card), the bottom right is the version released in England (compare these to an english card). Most of the jamaican music released out of jamaica was produced in England because of the popularity of reggae there as well as the number of West Indian immigrants. Original jamaican and international releases sometimes have different mixes on them, such as added strings, so this is sometimes very important. The top left is a jamaican blank record, which I guess is kind of like a japanese promo. These usually have very small printings and the rarest blanks go for massive amounts of money. It’s also very common for the sleeves and label of the record to be covered in notes and writing; sometimes very interesting scribbles. The top right is a modern repress of a vintage recording, so it’s similar to card reprints like XY Evolutions.
Very tricky business.

@shizzlemetimbers That Ariel is a beauty! Love it.
I have this 78 jukebox too, called a Mills Constellation. I was hoping to clean it up a bit but it’s kind of fallen by the wayside. Maybe someday…
