Neo 4 Shining Pull Rates

Japanese copies of Neo Destiny Shining cards…I’ve only recently paid them much more than a fleeting glance, and they seem to be a lot more scarce than the English equivalents (and demand higher prices, it would seem). It got me wondering why?

I can’t find much in the way of data on Neo 4 anywhere online to explain it.

Was the entire set a small print run in Japan, or did the Shining cards have a more difficult pull rate than their English counterparts?

If anyone can answer it, I’m sure one of you e4 maestros will know!

Several years ago I opened a Neo 4 box and pulled two shining.

Probably not the norm though.

Ah, that’s interesting! You’re the first person I’ve heard of that’s opened an actual full box.

If it is close to the norm, then that’d put the Japanese pull rates roughly at the same as the English.

Regarding Youtube box openings:

Catsmeowth pulled 1
Pokecollection pulled 1, though he left 1 out of the 60 packs sealed
Souske pulled 2, the part 4/4 video is missing, they had almost half a box left

My understanding was that the difference in scarcity was more so due to the print run size rather than the pull rate. There are far more Neo Destiny boxes available on the market at any given time than there are Neo 4 boxes.

Amazing, thanks for that!

With 2/3 Shinings per English box, it sounds like Japanese pull rates might not be too far off, based on this small sample size so far.

Interesting to see the disparity in the PSA pop, if rates aren’t far off.

Here are the pops of the top two Shinings:

I should also mention that one of the OG’s at Pokegym mentioned that he had witnessed 6 box openings, all with 1 shining.

Off topic, but never thought I’d see those names here, brings back memories.

That’s what I was wondering, was it more due to print run sizes, over individual pull rates.

Looks like that may indeed be the case!

PSA pops look like they roughly corroborate that ratio of 1 per box for Japanese/2 per box for English, when using the 1st ed English numbers.

Really says something about how rare these are, 10+ year old openings but just as relevant today!

Am interested to know the statistics and pull rates too.

I think it’s safe to say Japanese is more scarce. They have always been tough to grade. Harder than English in my experience.

I pulled a shining zard and tyranitar as a kid. Multiple runs to Jusco (shopping center) in Japan and bought 3-4 packs with my ¥2,000 yen allowance. Funny things was I had no idea what they were. Still have them today!
