New Collector - Need Info on Collection!

IMPORTANT: I will be posting info and estimated prices below each item in quotes, this is for my own administration as well as for any member that wants to know more about these cards.
The prices mentioned are estimates from members from this forum or from external sources, these are not necessarily my selling prices (message me for these).

Hello everyone!

I’ve just registered on this website, which seems to me like the best site for collectors of pokémon cards.
My dad and I collected a bunch of cards and items when I was little and a while back I dug up our collection.

Now I’m going to share my collection with you guys, let me know what you think, I myself am very proud of it.
I’m going to try and sell these items, so if you’re interested in them PM me, since I won’t sell them in this thread (that’s not allowed, right?).
(Also, if this is in the wrong section or if I’m breaking any rules, please let me know!)

The problem I have is that my knowledge of these items is very limited and a lot of our items are Japanese and I don’t speak Japanese.
I will be posting a bunch of different items in here and I would like to ask you guys for info and if possible a price check.
Please don’t be easy on my as I expect a few of these to be worthless, but all of those that I labeled ‘valuable’ years ago will be in this list.
Most of the items will need pictures, as a few of my items can’t really be described with words.

Thank you so much in advance, any help is greatly appreciated and my collection can be found below.

STATUS: Would appreciate info one everything that’s hasn’t got the striketrough thing!

PS: Excuse me for any mistakes in my English.

@laatst – Welcome to the UPCCC!

You’re brand new, no worries! This thread would be perfect for the Price Guide Discussion sub-forum – this is an area where a collector can obtain information about card values and card identification. When you are ready to sell your cards, you can post a thread in the Buy/Sell/Trade sub-forum. You should mention where you are located (i.e. mailing from), if you ship locally or worldwide, what currency you will be using, methods of payment you will accept (e.g. PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, Cheque, Concealed Cash, etc), and any rules and policies you may have (e.g. no returns, sold “as is” please read descriptions carefully, etc.)

I will try to provide as much information as possible, although it will pertain to the identification of cards rather than its value.

RE: Something from ANA, cards underneath?

The cards you described are Marill [ANA 2000 Giveaway Promo] and Togepi [ANA 2000 Giveaway Promo]. You do not know its identity until you open the front layer, although it is possible to have a peek and try to seal it again. In its sealed condition, you can obtain these for $10 - $15 (each).

RE: Unknown magazine "Pocketmonsters CardGame 2000 vol. 5

The card inside is Steelix [Pokémon Card Trainers Magazine Vol. 5].

RE: Giant Cards

The majority of those cards were released as a promotional card with issues of Coro Coro Comics – a Japanese magazine. You can easily obtain these for approximately $10 - $15 (each).

In the first photograph (Left to Right)…

Crystal Tower’s Entei (Coro Coro July 2001)
Pikachu and Pichu (Coro Coro July 2001)
Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres (English) – This card was given away as a movie promotional campaign for the infamous Pokémon 2000, The Power of One[/u][/i], available at Warner Bros. Stores.

In the second photograph (Clockwise, Starting at the Top-Left, Skipping Doubles)…

Mewtwo Strikes Back (Coro Coro May 1998)
Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Clefairy (Coro Coro July 1997)
Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres (Coro Coro October 1997)
Lawrence III (Coro Coro August 1999)

RE: Six Stadium Cards

These are known as the Lucky Stadium cards. You have a six out of a possible nine (9) cards in the complete set. They were awarded to participants of the World Challenge Summer Tournament(s), which were held between July and August of 2000. You can obtain the main eight cards for approximately $40 ($5 - $8 per card). The 9th Lucky Stadium is much, much more valuable ($1000 - $1500).

First Photograph (Left to Right)…

Lucky Stadium [Pikachu] – Hokkaidō Tournament, Tsukisamu Green Dome, Sapporo, July 16, 2000
Lucky Stadium [Gyarados] – Chūgoku/Shikoku Tournament, Hiroshima Sun Plaza, Hiroshima, August 2, 2000.
Lucky Stadium [Zapdos] – Chūbu Tournament, Nagoya Trade & Industry Center, Nagoya, July 22, 2000.

Second Photograph (Left to Right)…

Lucky Stadium [Ho-Oh] – Kansai Tournament, Asia & Pacific Trade Center (ATC), Osaka, July 8-9, 2000.
Lucky Stadium [Lugia] – Kantō Tournament, Pacifico Yokohama, Yokohama, July 1-2, 2000.
Lucky Stadium [Diglett] – Tōhoku Tournament, Sendai Wasse, Sendai, August 6, 2000.

RE: Pikachu promo card with pokémon center coin

That card is known as Pikachu [Tokyo Grand Opening Promo, 019/P]. I am actually interested in purchasing it, if no one else messaged you first.

RE: Strange ‘art-y’ card really dying for info on this, can’t find it anywhere

This card is known as the Please Trade. It was released as part of the Please Trade Campaign in February 1998 – an event that encouraged individuals to trade with one another. It is the only Pokémon card – other than Ancient Mew, to possess a holofoil backing. It is worth approximately $20 - $25.

RE: Special Pikachu card? Notice the lightning in the mid-left

That card is known as Pikachu (Chinese) [2000 Pikachu World Collection, Olympic Binder]. It was one out of nine cards in the set, sold at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. You can recognize it by the gold stamp in the shape of a Pikachu tail.

RE: Japanese Diglett and Dugtrio (promo?)

Diglett and Dugtrio were paired as promotional cards in Understand How to Play Pokémon Cards Now: Newest Edition, also known as Asobikata (Version 2).

I hope this helps!

~ UU

P.S. I am interested in the Pikachu Records CD (Sealed), Steelix [Pokémon Card Trainers Magazine Vol. 5] and Pikachu [Tokyo Grand Opening Promo, 019/P]. I will PM you! Thanks

Holy cow! Thanks for your post, I will take my time to read it now, you covered a lot of my items, thank you so much.
I am aware that selling and buying has it’s own forum, but I figured General would probably good as I also am collecting information on all the pieces.
Once I have info on my items, I’ll put them on eBay and in the Buying/Selling section on this forum.

@laatst – You’re welcome!

I suspect you will receive a positive response regarding card sales, because you have quite a few rare items – especially the [Masaki Mail-Away Campaign] cards and the Grand Party. Good luck

Thanks, I made another thread a little while back about some booster boxes I have, maybe you know the value on those as well?
And I used some of your info and price estimates, hope you don’t mind!

By the way, to any other readers of this thread, if you have any info (especially on items that don’t have quotes below them) please share it!
I would also really appreciate multiple price estimates per item, to get a (more) accurate pricing, so don’t hesitate to share info and price on items that already have quotes below!

Here’s some prices on the WOTC cards!

These prices are for MINT cards. Condition means a lot in terms of the old English cards.

#17 Dark Persian WOTC Black Star Promo
$3-4

American Ancient Mew (Sealed)
$3-5

#15 Cool Porygon WOTC Black Star Promo (Sealed)
$3-4

#8 Mew WOTC Black Star Promo (Non-Holo)
$1

#9 Mew WOTC Black Stat Promo (Holo)
$2-3

Misty’s Seadra PRERELEASE
$1 (unfortunately very, very common)

66/64 Shining Magikarp (Neo Revelation)
$6-8

Thanks again, how unfortunate that the Seadra is so common, it looks so rare haha!
Too bad the others aren’t worth that much either, they’re in my map with ‘rare stuff’ for some reason.
I also have a Japanese Shining Magikarp, that one’s a lot more valuable right?

Welcome laatst! I love your cards by the way.
Yeah the Japanese Shining Magikarp is much more rare than the English version. They generally can go for $50-$80.

The Japanese shining magikarp is plenty more valuable! can you check if the entire card is holo or if the card is non-holo with a gold embossed magikarp. The gold embossed one is worth considerably more than the other one.

The Masaki cards are pretty rare too and carry a decently high price tag. If mint a fair price is about $35-$40. They swing all over the place price wise though. Some sell shockingly cheap while others sell for sky high prices, it all depends on getting the right buyer

@laatst – Unfortunately, I have limited knowledge about booster packs and boxes. I only possess information about older gift sets. I don’t mind if you use my estimates, feel free to publicly share. In addition, I agree with the prices declared by Bluey.:* , FrostyFluxy and cbd1235.

I decided to address a few other merchandise values for your cards.

:black_small_square: Trainer Certification Card (Grand Party) [Fan Club Promotional Card] = $40 - $70 (Ungraded); $80 - $110 (Graded).

:black_small_square: Surfing Pikachu [1997 JR Rally] = $50 - $75; I am not confident on whether this is accurate. I have only seen a couple for sale in the past.

:black_small_square: Surfing Pikachu [Coro Coro September 1997] = $15 - $20

:black_small_square: Birthday Pikachu [Pokémon 2nd Anniversary Calendar] = $25 - $30 (Sealed)

:black_small_square: Flying Pikachu [Coro Coro Promotional Card] = $10 - $15

RE: Coro Coro Comics Mew on lily graded by Beckett ranging from 6.0 to 6.5, glossy or non-glossy, seems non-glossy to me?

It’s definitely glossy. The darker inks confirm it.

:black_small_square: Mew [Coro Coro February 1997] = $15 - $30 (Ungraded); It depends on its condition. This particular card is somewhat difficult to find in Near-Mint and Mint. A graded card of 6.0 - 6.5 (Excellent - Near Mint) may not be that valuable. I would estimate that it may be worth $20 - $30, but this is merely speculation.

:black_small_square: ANA Pikachu & Dragonite = [Sealed] $12 - $20
:black_small_square: ANA Pikachu & Articuno = [Sealed] $12 - $25
:black_small_square: ANA Zapdos & Moltres = [Sealed] $12 - $25

:black_small_square: Mewtwo [Coro Coro May/June 1997] = $7 - $25; I do not see this particular card often. The prices can vary depending on the seller.

→ The English version is only worth $2 - $5

:black_small_square: Cool Porygon [Nintendo 64 Campaign] = $2 - $3. It honestly isn’t that different in price from the English version. I noticed that you accidentally said this card was Japanese in your listing.

:black_small_square: Wooper [Coro Coro January 2000] = $5 - $7 (Sealed)

:black_small_square: Blaine’s Charizard [Challenge from the Darkness] = $6 - $12

:black_small_square: Great Rocket’s Mewtwo [GB Advance Promotional Card] = $10 - $18

Jigglypuff = ??

It depends on whether it is Jigglypuff [1997 Coro Coro Promotional Card] (Glossy) or Jigglypuff [Asobikata Vol. 1] (Non-glossy). In either circumstance, the value does not differ greatly.

:black_small_square: Jigglypuff [Asobikata Vol. 1] = $15 - $25
:black_small_square: Jigglypuff [1997 Coro Coro Promotional Card] = $12 - $20

Hmm, I probably have both the English and Japanese Cool Porygon and mixed up the images.
The Jigglypuff is from Asobikata Vol. 1.

Also, is the Lilypad Mew on the folder from the 1997 JR Rally glossy/non-glossy?
And does the folder add value? They’re in the most original state they can possibly be.

@cbd1235: It’s not the Fan Club Magikarp I think, it has 3 stars in the rightbottom corner and it’s from the NEO Revelation series.

@laatst

Mew [JR Rally 1997] is non-glossy. It is printed on matte paper stock, which makes the ink appear lighter. It also does not reflect light as much as glossy paper stock does.

Definitely! I have seen the original folders sell between $50 - $120, typically closer towards the $100 mark.

The market on pokémon stuff is SO weird, really!
I’ve been out of the collecting world for 10 years or so and the prices are so different now.
My dad and I were expecting huge prices on all the special Pikachu cards, like the birthday one.
That one was really over-hyped back in the day, we bought it for way too much haha.
But random things have spiked up in price, like the folder, booster boxes and random cards.

I have a price guide from Pojo that’s from 2002 or something and it says the Pikachu Records CD set is worth between $90 and $150, yeah right. :stuck_out_tongue:
Even worse, it says the birthday pikachu is $450 - $850!

By the way, just the JR stamp rally Pikachu and Mew together already are about $100, right? So what does the folder add then? :open_mouth:

I’d personally be interested in the JR stamp rally set if its sealed. :3

I’d also love that Neo binder. I need it for my binder collection.

The JR stamp rally set folder is ‘naked’, was it ever inside plastic?
I have it stored in plastic, but you can take it out. The cards are ‘stuck’ on the folder and in plastic sheets.

@laatst

No. The [1997 JR Rally] folder was never inside plastic, a box, or any type of container. It was just the folder by itself.

I believe it is safe to say that you can classify these open folders as “sealed”. The cards have not been removed – they have been kept in its original condition.

I do not know if the individual cards sell for that much. I haven’t seen enough sales to confirm that they would achieve a total of $100. Does the folder add to the value? Possibly. It depends on what the individual cards sell for. It heavily depends on the card and its popularity and/or rarity. There are promotional cards where having it sealed makes a substantial difference. Others? Not so much. In this case, you actually encounter the sealed folder just as often – if not more often, than the singular cards; this probably contributes to the narrow price margin between the individual cards and the folder – at least, from what we have seen thus far.

The highest sale price for the folder was approximately $200 - $250; it only happened once, to my knowledge. The majority of sale prices have been equal to, or less than, $120. I would estimate its average to be $80 - $100, but this is merely a theory.

No, I’d have to concede with that assessment. I haven’t seen the set go for more than $120.

So yes, definetly interested in both of those

I can’t even find the folder on ebay, I’m probably using the wrong search terms.
Anyways, if you want to work out a deal, just message me and it would be helpful if you include some links of recent auctions.

@laatst – If it helps, I managed to find a folder on eBay.

Thanks, eBay links never hurt.
Those are played/used though, mine aren’t.
I don’t really like how the majority of listings only have ‘buy now’ prices, if there were bids, I would have had a better indicator.
But I guess it makes them more profit?
