Mainly directed to @bluey and @funmonkey54 , since they’ve been looking for this card and the matching Groudon for their collections in the past and own them now.
What would a heavy played quality version of this no bar non-Holo Kyogre be worth in today’s market? Or what would you value this card at in general in NM condition? Before I’ve only seen pictures of them in your collections, but I honestly never searched for them, so no idea how rare/hard to find they (still) are these days.
I’ve seen fewer than 10 total copies combined ever. There is no established market. So it’s really going to come down to the price you’d pay to not wait indefinitely.
I’d buy any NM/M+ or better copy for $500 in a heartbeat. Objectively the rarest cards in the entire English old school ex collection. But any answer is going to be super subjective since all four collectors I know with a set are friends and only ever dealt internally when spares came up.
i have no way of knowing if this is true of not, but i think i read somewhere on bulbapedia that they came in an Australian Magazine? that could be totally wrong though
They were in an Australian magazine called ‘K-Zone’. Not to sound like the classic ‘oh, I had a first edition Charizard when I was a kid’, but I’m 99% sure I owned this card.
Comment is not related to the post but i have been looking for an image of this card for years to prove its existence. i should have known if anywhere this forum would come through with what i need. i would love to be able to get a better picture of Groudon ex is i could.
I’ve been looking for these cards ever since Charlie posted a picture awhile ago. Do we have any idea of the era of K-Zone magazine? Then perhaps we could narrow it down to issue?
“This card was first available as a Holofoil Nintendo Black Star Promo, and was given to participants of the Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire Challenge, held at several locations across the United States in August 2003. A Non Holofoil version was subsequently distributed in the October 2003 issue of Nintendo Power magazine. This print features a Dot Code strip for use with the e-Reader. In Australia, another Non Holofoil version, this time lacking the Dot Code strip, was later distributed in an issue of the kids magazine, K-Zone. In Japan, this card was available as an insert in the February 2003 issue of CoroCoro Comic, released in January 2003. It was later reprinted as a Holofoil card with a different promotional number and was given to those who redeemed a ticket featured in the same publication at participating venues. All of these promotions were released alongside Kyogre ex.”
