I am probably missing something on my end but is there a way to subscribe to a thread on this forum? So that it will send you an email or something saying when you have new replies or when you have new messages?

It should show up on the right hand side under the participated tab once your logged in. Also if you download tapatalk (for mobile) and follow Efour you get notified when someone has posted on a thread, liked your comment, mentioned you in a post, quoted you.
Can setup individual email notifications as well. “Edit Profile” > “Notifications”
