Official Youtube Thread

Hey Everyone,

The YouTube page is up and running! Below is a list of recommended content and instructions on how to make a quality video. If you are interested in hosting a video, Here are the submission recommendations:

-Box Breaks

-Card Information. Basically a video article.

-PSA returns

-Rare and/or unique items

If you would like your video hosted on our page, dropbox your video to: elitefourum@gmail.com

All videos must be approved by staff. The only rule is: no videos of your inventory. We understand you may change your mind on a card(s) and sell. However, we will not post videos that are clearly inventory advertisement.

With that said, feel free to plug your page in your video. This is a multi-marketing opportunity that will ideally benefit both parties. If you have any questions please message either @smpratte @fourthstartcg .

HOW TO FILM AND UPLOAD A YOUTUBE VIDEO:

This is a quick intro on how to film and upload a quality youtube video. With the new Elite Fourum YT channel, we will be opening it up to user-submitted videos. While you don’t have to be a professional videographer, a general standard of quality will be expected.

Make sure you use a quality camera. Smartphone cameras these days are more than adequate, but be sure your camera can easily focus on what you’re filming and is able to show detail. Most importantly, when using a smartphone, remember to film horizontally.

Make sure to film in a well-lit area. Natural light is best. Try to minimize any glare. Take several “test” videos before starting to film your actual video. If you aren’t doing a one-shot deal like a box opening, then don’t be afraid to do a few takes. But also keep in mind that that nobody is looking for perfection.

Have some sort of a background. Filming a box opening on your kitchen table with people running around in the background is not the best. Going off that, try to minimize any background noise as well.

While filming your video: make sure you keep an eye on the video display. If the video goes out of focus (it will), you’ll be able to catch it quickly and refocus the video.

Video editing is not required.

Once your video is filmed, watch it over yourself. Make sure the video doesn’t cut out in places, and everything looks good. Then send it off to elitefourum@gmail.com!

Personally I feel if someone is going to submit video from a phone they should know

@cullers with the most relevant post of February, thank you for your contribution (seriously this is not sarcasm)

Looking forward to what goes up on the channel - if I could make a recommendation, it’s HIGHLY beneficial to have an organization structure to the channel ie: playlists with certain types of videos, and descriptions with standardized information. It also doesn’t hurt to have a standard tags list saved somewhere for quick addition to the tags section of a video (in addition to the relevant added tags)

I was directly involved in a project for another community where we uploaded user submitted videos to a community channel and the organization that was established beforehand was the only reason it worked (here, if you’re curious).

(not saying you don’t have a plan in place, just know it’s worth mentioning and considering)

Thanks Spencer! I forget that tidbit myself on occasion. I went ahead and edited into the first post.

Definitely in agreement. I’ll be working on the YT channel and making everything look pretty. We’ll have a good organization and everything should look great once we get some videos up there.

Cross-post from the lovely @churlocker in the CP3 thread - thought it was worth maybe suggesting as a channel norm

you could have annotations to skip along the video to the “interesting pulls” (ie SR/FA/EX/etc) that way if someone just wants to see that they can easily jump to it. It’s more work for the team but it’s pretty useful as a feature imo.

That being said, if you all needed someone else to take on additional busy-work such as that I’d be happy to volunteer on it. I can’t do uploading due to my garbage internet speed but I can definitely offer a hand for these type of things. Let me know if it’s of interest to ya.

I would argue against this actually.

We want people to watch and be engaged with our videos, not encourage them to skip through to the end. Watch time/audience retention also increases search results performance and whether our video gets suggested by YouTube. So putting a recap at the end often leads to nothing good for the channel.

It sucks that the attention formula works against consumer convenience that way.

While I agree with where you’re coming from, I’d be curious to know if that’s true because I’d assume (from my experience) that if someone has to watch 12 minutes of video to see 2 minutes of what interests them then they just won’t bother.

I may be totally wrong but idk. I’d also like to mention I’d more recommend annotations to the neat pulls throughout the video, not necessarily doing a recap at the end that people jump to.

To add on to what @justinator said.
I personally don’t watch box breaks unless they have a recap at the end. I know it is a terrible way to go, but sometimes I don’t have time to sit and watch someone spend 30 minutes opening packs.

This is an excellent idea! I wish I still had my Chinese booster unboxing :frowning:

Would a video of the complete Chinese sets be of interest? I could also do a video of my BGS Chinese EX Legend Maker cards when I get those back?

Nice work on the No rarity video @fourthstartcg
Hoping for more educational videos! I think that suits the forum very well and alot of people will be happy to learn some of the knowledge many collectors here have

There will be plenty more just like this one! That was the main goal of adding youtube, as well as box break and other quality items.

Should we have a follow-up video to the no rarity? Stating that cards in the theme decks don’t have rarity symbols but aren’t rare?

I actually answered a question in the vid comments about that, but I’m not sure if it warrants its own video.

I haven’t managed to read all posts yet but a suggestion is:-

Please do not state the pulls in the description or title, for the love of heaven almighty.
The amount of videos I don’t watch because people say “OMG that pull” “PULLING VINTAGE PACK/AMAZING PULLS/AMAZING CARDS”
Click bait or not I avoid as it ruins the surprise.I have started doing some vids, I like to mix it up so you cant just skip to the end for the good stuff et(not uploaded yet hah I’m still trying to get myself going and time restrictions with work and life slowwss it down)
Time stamps are good for some vids but not for pulls etc as stated earlier, people will just watch parts of it…full engagement from viewers is desired
