So this might sound really weird but I had a thought. What are the chances of there just being a warehouse or warehouses with a bunch of old wotc product? Like neo destiny, expedition etc. Just palettes of booster boxes
There more or less is, that’s where MJ holdings gets their “Mystery Box” vintage insert packs from. As far as I’m aware it’s “damaged” product from ye olden days, basically just old boxes that couldn’t be shelved.
What do you mean?
Boxes that at the time were in too poor of condition on the outside to be sent to vendors. Supposedly they just ended up in limbo, and MJ holdings later repurposed them to be used as chase packs in their mystery boxes for retail.
I had no idea they did that. What kind of packs do they put in their mystery packs?
It depends on which box, they’ve done a multitude of versions of them over the years. Some better than others haha. But a lot of WOTC era packs.
Oh I just looked. It’s nothing crazy. Mostly unlimited and foreign 1st edition packs. Still very cool though.
The first question that arises is, why haven’t we seen it yet? With such high prices you’d expect to see more hit the market, unless they are truly forgotten about.
I think it’s extremely unlikely. In the Steve Aoki Gold Star video, the guy from DA Card World said that they didn’t sell a single box of Neo Destiny; they had to sell the packs individually because no one would buy them.
That said, lost stashes do exist and are fun to think about. If you’re not familiar you might want to look up how Tim Atwood found his Stadium Events sealed games. There are similar stories of baseball cards found in attics that turned out to be worth a lot.
Yep I found it interesting as well. I’ve seen people pull 1st edition jungle, rocket, etc. from them. Cool to see the old stuff circulating from time to time.
Now I’m down a rabbit hole on YouTube haha
They struggled to sell packs? Before the big boom I assume
I don’t know if they struggled to sell the packs, but the boxes didn’t move. I imagine this would have been around Neo Destiny’s release, so early 2002.
Yeah that makes sense. Pokémon was on a down turn
Honestly, I don’t think that is the case. All of the WOTC packs in those mystery boxes were light and the odds of that happening from boxes being opened are near impossible. Plenty of videos online, plenty of anecdotal pictures in discords over the years. The only WOTC holos i’ve heard of being pulled from those were from, “MY BEST FRIEND PULLED A BASE ZARD!” type kids.
If anyone has a warehouse of cards, its wizards.
Wait what?
100% there are large swaths of certain sets/products that have been sitting in collections, warehouses, closets, etc for years. However, theres really no way to know for sure just how much is there. Personally, I think that there are sealed cases for every set due to how many boxes get made, even in the slimmest print runs. Its also likely there are pallets for some of this stuff.
Even sets like Skyridge had thousands upon thousands of boxes made. As Pokemon lost its popularity and Wotc lost its license, I’m sure that LOTS of product was given away and tucked away into storage and personal collections, only to be long forgotten. I find it hard to believe that there doesnt exist sealed cases for every set.
When Pokerev bought the storage unit/LGS inventory there was a sealed Dragon Frontiers case…
that video is epic and probably the biggest and coolest one we have publicly seen, but even there that is not market altering quantities. I am sure there are many cases of every set too but still there would need to be pallets of every set to warrant any concern. E4 alone could absorb what we see in that video in an hour. Most of the boxes were not sealed either, so as fun as it is to think all of our sealed investments will come crashing down the next time an old store owner make a trip to their storage locker I would not hold my breath.
I agree. This stuff is just too popular and too in demand. Temporary price reduction possibly if it was large enough supply and it was all sold at once…but who knows. PWCC and other auction houses sell dozens of wotc boxes every week
Set cards - there is always another copy.
Yeah many wotc boxes get sold every month. The video above had a lot of ex so that was unique but still they were mostly not sealed. I always love when an ex box gets auctioned its so rare
