2024 was an absolute disaster for me. Had 2 huge family events that really shook me all year long. This had me step back from a lot and spend more time with my loved ones around me and cut off the “cancerous” friends and family that I had around me.
Not a year I ever want to go through again. Happy I was able to be a little more active on here and make some great friends.
I spent a lot of my collecting on Team Rocket Returns and a couple modern sets. Cracked a lot of slabs and moved even more of my binders to VaultX.
Here is a collage of a brief summary of my year including some awesome purchases and life events.
I bought a tropical wind, collectors charizard, and another unlimited e1 bulbasaur.
I was able to pick up my first gamefreak magazine and hopefully can pick up some more in the future!
An old seller reached out to me 4 years later to sell me a rare sticker sheet that came in the Daisuke club Komiya book which was such an amazing thing to happen.
I was gifted a beautiful bicycle from my dad for my birthday. Already put many kilometers on it and can’t wait to ride it when the weather warms up.
Saw the eclipse and snapped a beautiful photo… Also bought a vintage eclipse lamp to go with the event.
And finally… I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes) in early June. I started chemotherapy in July and just finished as of yesterday. I was showing remission at the halfway point in October and should expect some good confirmation it’s gone once I get scans in February. This put a halt on my career but was still able to live a great year with good friends and family.
Your year was, besides that shocking revelation, a very interesting one in collecting and in general. I think the story of that rare sticker sheet is astronomically cool. I love these sorts of interactions. Its so worth it taking the extra time to be a little more nice to someone sometimes and in certain places. I personally missed the eclipse. Life got in the way. Bummer. I had wanted to dust off my camera gear and get a shot of it(with appropriate ND/polarizing filters of course).
The whole sticker thing was such an amazing feeling. Especially since I was jealous of other collectors who had the sticker sheet including with their books.
Congrats on all your accomplishments in 2024. The Tropical Wind is particularly amazing! Praying for some good news and good health for you in 2025 and beyond
Seeing first steps, saying some words and how much baby grows and learns new skills in a one year is crazy. Also I hit a gym like no tomorrow every time I had a chance.
Not too much has changed in my personal life. I got the keys of my house in November 2023, so in 2024 I mostly got more used to life living alone, and buying more stuff to decorate my house. Oh, and I also bought a car again mid-2024 (although I did have a car in the past, so it’s not my first).
Collection-wise, one big achievement is the final English Pikachu card I was missing, to 100% complete the English portion of my Pikachu collection. It still feels pretty surreal.
Apart from that, I’ve mostly just kept up with new releases for all my collections (English Pikachu; English FA Supporter/CHR cards; and Seviper card across all languages), which are all still complete (again). And my non-TCG Seviper collection has also been going pretty well.
2024 was mostly more of the same for me. That’s not a bad thing but it’s not particularly great either. I could be much worse off.
I did accomplish two things notable here.
First, I set and hit a goal to run a half marathon in under 2 hours. 1:56:05. Not a bad time but I certainly could be faster so I’m trying to figure out what running goal I should shoot for next.
Second, after years and years of searching, I finally found the final Matchbox 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 I needed to complete the collection of all the retail releases and variations of this casting.
Of course, in those years they started making this thing again so now I’ll have to keep up with all the releases. But that shouldn’t be as difficult.
@mthursty one of my best friends went through that diagnosis and treatment a number of years ago. He beat it and is doing great today. You can do it! Great to hear the progress that is being made and prayers for good scans in February.
I really admire the change you made to your collection goals a while back. It in no way reduced the impressivness of your collection.
The fact that you were able to complete all English Pikachu cards is such an achievement. Congratulations
