i remember that these cards were going for like 500-600 and now they are going for now, around $1200. Why the sudden increase ?

@vlouted, demand primarily, with less and less being available on the market. Even the PSA 9s have also climbed up in price as well since i bought mine a few months back, but i just think personally with the boom of hidden fates, a new generation set being rleased, and with more and more older collectors coming back into the game things are now heating up among the buyer pools for these items.
Numerous reasons:
- price of sealed product has risen
- less sealed product is being opened
- legitimate challenge to grade in a PSA 10
- by far the most sought-after card in the set
- incredible artwork
- Dragonite’s rookie card and one of the most iconic set cards in the hobby

The trend I notice in this hobby is prices remain slow-moving or stagnant for a while. Suddenly because of a temporary lull in availability, one copy sells high. People who have been putting off the card begin to panic and climb over each other to get a copy and new prices encourage sellers to put their copies on the market. Usually the price shoots past the supply-demand equilibrium point and comes down a bit from the peak sale to a new sustainable price.
Note I’m only talking about graded set cards with a large enough pop. Really limited items dont tend to have the step where they fall back

All old school era cards are going up!
My advice is buy the Japanese variants as those are quite cheap at the moment (in comparison) but they will probably shoot up as well in 1-2 years.
All of this. Also, with more people submitting grades in and seeing how hard it is to get 10s they are realizing the premium they deserve.
The price of all my PSA 10 Fossil cards and booster boxes have gone crazy in the last year. I hate it. I have 3 cards left, lol.
This is 100% what happens. The FOMO hits hard.
