What are your opinions on Graded Guard / Graded Card Cases? I think they’re interesting and kind of a little over the top. A solution to a problem that doesn’t exist would be how I’d describe these :stuck_out_tongue:

Some of my few favorite cards in a Graded Guard

I think they look great, but I wish the drops weren’t so exclusive. I thought it’d be nice to get one of the Sunset ones for a card I have being graded, but they sold out in like 2 minutes. Not sure why all the scarcity and scalping over plastic that should be easily mass-produced.

Love how they look though!

I personally like them.

They have a practical use for protecting the slabs in case of a drop, and provide a more tactile experience during handling.

The extra pop of (the right) colour also makes the slabs more visually appealing and can make the case feel more of a “whole” with the card inside.

I like to mix the metallic, translucent & matt options…

I think covering a plastic slab in acrylic, hard plastic, metal, or rubber protection is cringe. I don’t need protection for my protection.

In my opinion, the one reasonable exception could be slab sleeves if you are sick of finger prints/dust/scratches.

As a budget collector this makes me wonder if there is a way to 3D print one’s own slab guards

With graded cards, the slab is just as much a part of the collectible and its value as the card inside. And while you can get them replaced if they’re damaged, its a hassle and a risk. Doesn’t seem that ludicrous to want to protect the edges of these in case you drop them. Theyre not invincible.

While these do look cool and can enhance the look with the right highlight, unless you’re moving them around a lot of have rowdy kids or pets it is unnecessary imo. Also doesn’t help that the big 3 and most smaller grading companies have very ugly labels.

So while the cards and color work well the ugly labels take a lot away from that synergy for me making the net result a very slight positive that (for me) is not worth the money

The fact that such simple items get scapled is hilarious to me as well

If they made these for TAG or ARS slabs I would probably be interested though since those are aesthetically pleasing to begin with and would really benefit from the extra pop of color

The coolest use for this type of product that I’ve seen are Slabmags used as frames for cards turned into shadowboxes by Digimodified (his user on reddit, insta, and Etsy)

They are fine. More display options are always welcome for me

The Tag stuff on etsy is pretty sick honestly

They do make stuff for PSA but its not for me:

Mainly because of the label but also because of the frosted slab. Its still interesting though and i wouldnt be opposed if i got a few as gifts.

But with tag you can really make some interesting stuff. Mostly an extension of the art but it works well with their see through slab.
Unfortunately i dont have many tag cards to play around with

I understand why people use them, whether for aesthetic purposes or for additional protection. They’re just not for me and I think they’re cringe.

I have purchased a few in the past (all sold so far). Very nice looking, but too much money, no point in having just a few for your collection, all or nothing, that’s my motto, I currently have hundreds of graded cards in my collection, it would cost me thousands in GradedGuard, so I pass.

They remind me of cheap phone cases :man_shrugging:

But whatever floats your boat

I bought a few (gold and silver) to try after seeing some online. I don’t think the extra protection is at all necessary so it was purely for the aesthetic. Personally I was disappointed, though with hindsight I don’t know what I was expecting. I don’t use them anymore.

Maybe this sounds harsh but considering how much I paid in total it kind of feels like a waste of money.

My opinions are mixed but lean positive.

I enjoy the pop of color they give and the color coordination is fun. When I have a bunch of slabs upright in my case, they help identify the cards without needing to flip. I always know yellow/green/blue next to each other will be these 3. I sleeve all my slabs anyway to prevent scuffs, prints, etc. Guards solve that while elevating the look and feel of those cards.

I like the new styles they’ve been making but the whole limited supply drops thing isn’t for me. I tend to buy the guard once I have a slab for it. Not going to buy a guard then find the slab.

My biggest complaint, why is the clear plastic supposed to be on the back of the cards?! I don’t get it. If I want any extra protection, I want it on the front of the slab, not the back. I put all of my guards on backwards for this reason.

I like them, I put them in the same category as any other item people use to protect or display their collectibles. The price for them seems a little crazy and has been preventing me from buying more though (buy 5 of them and you could have had a $100 card). It makes total sense to me that if someone has a card they really love that they enhance the display to their liking and these fit the bill.

I think its similar to why phone cases don’t have it either. The bumpers will absorb the shock from a drop

I like having them for my grails, the pop of color is really nice, and as someone who lives in an earthquake-prone state it’s good to have the protection imo. still need one for my corocoro mew though, the exclusive drop thing is pretty dumb
