Opinions on regrade... which company

Time has come and the itch hasnt left. I want to regrade the reverse charizard I pulled from LC as the grade still doesnt sit well with me

Here is the card in question

It’s easy to say just send it back to psa. My thoughts are that this is incredibly expensive to grade, even if it just comes back as a 9. and there is a lot of time wasted

When I went through pregrading, i took note that the front was clear of any flaws. I analyzed with 10x, 30x, and 60x magnification. I also have the grading notes from the grader. The only issue they took with my card is the top left back corner, It may be difficult to see in picture. Its even harder to see in person and I often find myself using magnification just to even spot it

Now, heres my dilemma. Should I skip psa altogether and go to cgc or bgs?

I went ahead and took a look at the cgc 10s available:

it seems as though cgc has an allowance for a tiny amount of whitening. Whereas psa has absolutely zero tolerance. So I’m thinking it has a very good shot at cgc

what im not as familiar with is bgs. I want to see if its worth it to try and get a 9.5 and to hear the thoughts of other posters

bgs 9.5 vs cgc 10

any replies are appreciated

bgs 9.5 isnt guaranteed but my thoughts are that it’s more likely than a psa 10
I’ve been monitoring the pop report since April, and not a single psa10 has been added since then through September

Just send it around till you get the 10. The other companies are not nearly as expensive to submit to

each time you crack and resubmit you’re risking the chance of damaging it and turning it into a 5

I think the mistake i made in the first place was sending it in as a single card express item. It probably went through unnecessary scrutiny.
I should have submitted it as a value tier with other cards in the sub.

I know i shouldnt do this, but i cant help but compare my card to other psa10 reverse holos on ebay and feel a bit shafted. When I look at my charizard, it looks as good or better on the backside than nearly all of them. Maybe I have bias eyes since its my card
I would be thrilled with a bgs 9.5 but im not sure what they would think about the centering and I’m scared to get a 9 subgrade

I think cgc is most likely to 10

I think it looks like a CGC 10. It looks really good to me. Market price on BGS 9.5 is comparable to CGC 10 ATM so if you wanna see 10 do cgc until you get a 10.

Though I’d say a bgs 9.5 is also extremely likely. I grade a lot with bgs (less so now I guess) but it looks better than nearly every 9.5 I’ve graded myself

thank you for the calming advise! that makes me feel a lot better!

I mean at the end of the day it’s pack fresh. I think everyone can see that here. I don’t wanna gas you up to try over and over but if it meant that much to me and it was a sufficiently expensive card (it is) you can bet I’d try bgs and CGC at least 2x each lol

whats the typical turnaround time with bgs? I heard its pretty long

I’m thinking the play here is to try for the cgc 10 and then to cross grade it to psa in slab. If psa says no, it’s okay as It’s still a slabbed 10 !
If i tried this with bgs then psa would see the subgrades and scrutinize

Thanks guys. Ive come to my conclusion

I just use bgs at the lowest tier. Even for high end stuff like gold stars. Recently it’s taken me 1.5 months. It’s probably much better at higher tiers.

PSA is notoriously picky with in slab reviews. CGC is currently quite fast and has a September special. It’s my go to company but I understand grading is very opinion based and many don’t agree. If you need it to be PSA to satisfy your own collection goals you can always try PSA again. Or sell the bgs or CGC to fund a 10 at psa

I am a psa grader which is why I started this thread as I dont have much experience with the others, I collect psa slabs

unfortunately, a psa 10 would run me $15k-$20k
if cgc were to 10 it, I could get 8-10k but that only takes me half way there :grimacing:
The psa premium is insane

edit: I might be overestimating cgc 10 value. It seems to be 5.5-6k despite what others actually list it for ($10k)
With a psa strong 9 new cert i could probably get 5k worth of value anyways. So now im questioning if its even worth it. Maybe regrade one more time with psa

If you’re a Psa grader, why don’t you just slab it yourself for free? The premium is clearly there.

Yeah, but if you hit a CGC 10 or bgs 9.5 and will still desire the PSA 10 you may want to try to factor that into your plan of attack

My advice would be to learn to enjoy the card and ignore the label. After all, we are collecting cards in this hobby, not labels or subjective grader opinions.

Alternatively, if it is bugging you so much, I would sell the PSA 9 and save up to buy a PSA 10. I imagine that you might feel unhappy with a CGC 10 or BGS 9.5 in the end, especially if PSA 10s come to market and are within your budget.

Personally I would try re-subbing to PSA a few more times. The card looks like a 10 from the scan + grader notes to me. I’m biased but ever since cgc allowed blue 9.5s to become 10s I just see all cgc 10s as PSA 9s.

Either BGS for the 9.5, or back to PSA until it hits 10 would be my play as it is a very clean copy.

I’ve missed your wisdom

Returning after 7 months just to make that comment is brilliant.

Cheers!

Crack it open and put it in a nice binder. That card will look great in a binder sleeve. Sadly a binder card doesn’t have the ability to clout chase so it might not be up to your standard.

I have a second one sir
Thats typically how i do it with my charizards
One for grading and one for binder

Even the zards that i have graded slabs for, if i like the card enough i find myself with many copies that i keep around for myself

I dunno why you guys think im this clout guy

Probably why i never made my collection thread. I sense bad energy here sometimes
