~ Hello world ~

Read about my motivation

Dear fellow collectors!

@joponnes and @mrbubbles encouraged me on 09-30-2024 to create this thread and share my collection. I am happy they did! :hugs:

I began collecting in 2024, but I’ve had a strong fascination with cardboard since my youth. Here, you’ll find various Starmie-related items (my favorite Pokémon) along with some Dragalge cards and merch as well. I like to have things graded because I enjoy the idea of preserving and sealing them, though the grade itself isn’t my top priority—I’m not focused on maximizing profits.

For me, it’s about the joy of collecting and gathering. For this reason I collect without a spreadsheet and am not interested in a masterset of sorts. Most importantly, collecting should deepen the connection between ourselves and our memories - and it should be great fun.

At this point I want to highlight the most significant card in my collection: the 1st Edition German Base Set Starmie. You might think it’s nothing special, especially given its grade of 3—but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

This card has a unique story. It was given to me by a friend who wanted to clear out his old Pokémon cards, so I gladly took them. As a child, I had my own Pokémon card collection, but sadly, it was stolen by another kid.

When my friend gave me his cards, I felt such happiness and nostalgia. These were the very same cards we used to play with in school, and this Starmie card is the actual card we battled with back in the day. That’s why it’s the most meaningful card to me. It’s like holding onto a piece of my childhood—a physical keepsake filled with emotions and memories from the past.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Great start so far! Haven’t seen a Starmie collector as of yet, so I’ll be following along! Also excited that you’re delving into non-TCG, as there’s a bunch of interesting stuff there.

Very nice. Awesome to see this collection thread which will keep growing, which I am looking forward to. I know of another resident Starmie collector in @stagecoach , so maybe he will also enjoy this thread. Thanks again for making this thread.

Cheers!

I’m really looking forward to getting in touch with @stagecoach at some point; maybe there will be an opportunity in the future. Until then, I’ll try to share some of my other items as well. So far, I’ve really enjoyed creating this thread and sharing my stuff here. The community is super welcoming and nice, and I’m very glad I found this place!

Thank you very much, I really enjoy creating this thread as an online representation of my collection … even though I really can’t keep up with posting and grading all items. So, there is still much more to come … and I try to keep things as organized as they are now. Nice to get such positive feedback. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I cannot stress enough how much I am enjoying your Starmie collection!! Bravo! I could cry. I agree Starmie V from the Trainer Gallery is one of the best arts, nonetheless, this Pokémon has other amazing illustrations, such us its rookie, its BREAK, its baby shiny… really, I just love them all hahaha

Also, so refreshing seeing that you’re collecting non-TCG stuff as well! I’m missing some stickers and tazos that were sold in the late 90s and the 2000s in Spain, no idea their equivalent in other countries, and those that I happen to have kept are at my parents’ house… when I go and visit them I’ll check those items and pass any information that I can get to you

I’ll keep an eye on your posts! <3

I hope you still enjoy my posts on beautiful Starmie.
Just wanted to check, if you are still in on passing that information on to me you spoke of in your post. I would really love to get some more details on everything you want to share.

Sure!! Catching up already, I’m running out of spare time these days, loving your catches as always! Hahaha. About that information I promised, don’t worry, I won’t forget, it’s just that I live far from my home town, I visit my parents 3-4 times a year at most. Bear with me! :joy:

Okay, let’s start this thread here.

I really like how Starmie is depicted as though it’s racing around on some kind of course or track. Compared to the artwork from other Starmie releases, this one stands out in a unique way that’s hard to put into words. The entire image feels dynamic, almost as if it’s in motion, and it draws the observer in, sparking curiosity about what might have led to this particular scene. I love it for that reason, and I think it’s incredibly well-executed, making it truly stand out.

Best,
orannge

Starmie is amazing, it’s one of my favorite Pokémon. Which Starmie card is your favorite? Mine is probably the Skyridge one or the full art one with Misty

That’s a hard question, @lamplamp. I like most of them, but overall I think I would go with Temple of Anger.

It’s nice to know, you like Starmie too.

I love this art so much, it’s one of my three favourite Starmie art, along with Skyridge and the recent Starmie V TG13

I am in love with this card. The pokémon all look great, and the contrast to the art style of the back makes it only more interesting. I really like the warmth of the colors. Besides that: Goldeen and Golking look just adorable. The only thing that keeps nagging me is Staryu touching the heart symbol. Once you saw it, you can never unsee it. More info about the magazine that had the card included can be found here in this e4 post.
