I’ve seen very little if any of this available. Am I looking in the wrong places?!
what do you mean by original pokemon art?
Anything by hand meant for TCG, animation, or other manufactured product.
There have been animation drawings and storyboards that occasionally pop up on auction sites. I have also seen some of the original work used in Pokémon cards in person at artist meets. A few of the artists have some of the works on their website already but it tends to be the digital drawings.
This was an amazing piece in a recent auction:
goldinauctions.com/2006_Ken_Sugimori_Pokemon_Pichu_Original_Hand_Draw-LOT59653.aspx
Final prices include buyers premium.: $55,350.00
If you search for “pokemon anime cel” you’ll usually find a bunch of the original anime art cel frames for sale on eBay and alike. I currently see thirteen for sale, but prices vary between 375-5000 USD for those.
There was a very brief thread about them a couple of months ago: www.elitefourum.com/t/animation-cel-collectors/27527/1
Without that I wouldn’t even have known about the term ‘cel’ to be completely honest (English isn’t my native language).

Here’s a gem:

Comparable to the ‘Scratchy’s arm’ animation cel Bart Simpson receives.
This is a awesome piece of Pokemon art/history! Thanks for sharing
This is exactly what I’m talking about. More like this out there!!?
There was a discussion of this on the MTG art Facebook group. There’s no real equivalent to original MTG art with Pokemon, and it’s because of the ownership of the original art. With MTG, the artist owns the right to their artwork in addition to WotC. So the artist is legally allowed to sell the original painting, prints, and the like. With Pokemon art, the rights were signed over to WotC, and so there’s little chance that original artwork ever comes up for sale. Very unfortunate, but that’s my understanding.
I’ve worked with every major IP holder, from Disney to Warner Brothers to Universal to Nickelodeon, and I’ve always been particularly impressed with Pokémon in terms of keeping key assets under the radar prior to a launch date…
