Pikachu Card with blue dye splotches/misprint

Hello: My 12 yr old inherited a collection years ago. She wants to save for an ipad and thought of selling the cards, but pulled out this one picachu card to keep. She told me she likes it because if the “blue splotches”. I had no clue what she was talking about so I looked and sure enough the top of the card has blue dye marks, one clearly in the shape of a “2”. the marks look like a collection of small dots. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Her desire to collect lasted about 6 mos when she was in 4th grade and kids would trade at lunch. I got the collection from a woman who was cleaning out her house-it was her high schoolers collection from when he was a kid. I don’t know anything about Pokémon so I have to ask-Is this card misprinted, and does that make it lose value or gain value???

If you want people to tell you if it’s a misprint or not you will need to post photos, but I’d say the card is priceless because it’s the one card your daughter wants to keep.

I agree with you! I’m trying to figure out how to post photos now!

I posted a photo to imgur.com/a/qNUXPAF.

I’m not 100% but I mean that could be anything. I’ve never seen a misprint like that and it could very well be but i think that’s probably just an ink blotch. That is just one opinion though so be sure to ask other people. Also, if it was a misprint that card wouldnt be very much anyways. hope this helped.

From the photo you posted it looks like someone may have been writing with a sharpie or something on a piece of paper on top of the card. I haven’s seen any printing errors like that before and it would be very unusual if it was manufactured like that, so I’m assuming it is some type of ink damage from a scenario like the one above.

Looks like a blue pretzel. Let’s call it pretzelchu

Looks to be the result of a kid flexing their imagination by drawing on their Pikachu card to up it’s level and HP to pretend that it’s stronger than it actually is haha

Ha! I thought of markers too. But when you hold a card in the light you can see there is a finish on these cards. Almost shiney, but not really. Those blue dots are under the finish if that makes sense. In other words the dots have the finish over them just like the rest of the card. The whole thing is just weird. Any ideas who I can send it to for examination? Maybe my eyes are going!! I know nothing about these cards, but it does seem to be that unique printing issues make a card more desirable if it’s legit. Or at the very least, enthusiasts seem very interested to see new anomalies!

you can send it to the grading services but to be entirely honest, I wouldn’t and its 98% an ink blotch. And even if it was a an ink blotch on a psa 10 card, it wouldn’t be worth hardly anything anyways. Misprints like missing letters or colors are one thing but ink blotches are a very niche thing and not very desirable, especially on a common Pikachu card from an unpopular era. I don’t want to be the guy that bursts your bubble but that’s just the reality of it. Now I would like for it to be something cool for your sake but seeing what other people have said, it’s a dud my friend.

Luckily she got a nice offer for the collection that gets her a lot closer to her new ipad she’s been saving for. No disappointment whatsoever! This card along with others will decorate her laptop cover or binders for school. Pikachu is going off to middle school!!! Lol! Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Someone tried to buff the Pikachu to 260hp with a marker imo
