Just on a small regional dutch tv station, but still interesting.
What’s pointed out by the auction house is that the bottom-left corner (front) doesn’t have the PSA logo.
(of course there are more red flags)

I wish I would understand what they’re saying.
The accent/way of talking is really horrible of the guy that owns the card
Hopefully they didn’t pay too much. Are they not aware its fake?
No mention of the price. It is mentioned that he bought it from marktplaats.nl which is quite known for being easy to get scammed (I would say it’s the dutch craigslist).
It seems like he only figured out during his auction house visit that it is fake. Or he’s just acting unaware for the extra drama of course.
Even as a Dutch person this is hard to understand, hard dialect lol
They are now aware it is fake, he tried to sell it via a weird completely non pokemon auction house which told him it was fake.
He said he bought it on a Dutch marketplace, taking a quick look on there the original listing is now gone (also no way to see sold listings), but the person trying to sell it via the auction house is now selling this card on Marktplaats knowing it is a fake, he is not even clearly stating it in the listing that it is fake. So a scammer sold it it to someone who is now trying to scam people as well…
The amount of cat hair on his sweater while knowing you are going to be on television is scarry.
@quaador we need a translator
I enjoyed watching him struggle to slide to the next picture on his phone like 3 times unsuccessfully btw.
Pokémon Illustrator bought from marktplaats.nl? Rofl… No way you’ll ever find any (legit) Pokémon trophy on Marktplaats…
It’s not a bad place for secondhand products, and I actually bought cards from it myself before (including surprisingly enough my Reverse Holo Polish Pikachu and two Japanese Teach Set Pikachu cards - from a fellow Dutch Pikachu collector who was also active on Efour in the past and knew me), but anyone who owns trophy cards knows selling them to a Dutch-only market is the last thing you would want to do, whether it’s through marktplaats or a Dutch auction house.
We need a translator for your comment, since you misspelled my name.
But anyway, here the rough translations. I could understand all of it despite their strong accent, but it’s still difficult to translate certain phrases from Dutch to English.
0:33-0:50 On first glance it seems correct. The case contains the card, and if we look at the number, it’s apparently sold for 375,000 USD in the past.
0:52-0:56 And then your heart starts beating faster, because you think: yes, this is the jackpot.
0:57-1:01 I wanted to have it verified, and potentially sell it for the same price.
1:03-1:10 If we receive this, we of course want to do some research to check if it’s real or not real.
1:11-1:16 It’s not possible that we accept this, and we then immediately put it in the catalog, like: “place your bids”.
1:17-1:54 I look for certain important characteristics. (I’m unable to zoom in on my mobile right now…) But at the bottom left, it has an imprint of the little logo of PSA, in the plastic case. But if I then look here at bottom right, I see this case doesn’t have that. Then you can basically conclude that it’s not the same card that was sold back then.
1:55 [Verfalsing] = [Fake]
1:56 So someone came up with this joke, has made this copy, gifted it to someone (he probably means sold for a low price), and gave people headaches for a few days.
2:06-2:09 I’m perplexed. Just scandalous something like this exists.
2:10-2:15 The moment a piece of art increases in value, people will start making fakes.
2:16-2:18 You explain where people should look at. But a lot of people will look, but they won’t see. And if you say: that’s what you should look at; then they’ll see it. And the next time anyone who comes across a card like this, they’ll first look at the bottom right to check if it contains the PSA watermark. If that isn’t the case, forget about it, just stop looking any further.
2:37-2:43 I’m somewhat happy that I now know I should pay better attention when buying cards from Marktplaats.
Despite the just 3 minute long video, translating it took longer than expected. So I won’t be doing that anytime soon again, haha.
Greetz,
Quuador
Marktplaats is a blessing and a pain, always have been.
I do have respect for this auction house who is not into Pokemon as far as I know.
They did research and figured out something a lot of people don’t even know (about the logo).
Keep in mind most collectors don’t know E4 and most collectors are not aware there is a lot of knowledge if you really search for it.
If it looks too good to be true, it always is and will always catch greedy people
