I’m looking to start a Pokédex binder that I can keep filling whenever new generations end up being released.
Looking for some general opinions on the best way to accomplish this when it comes to picking a binder.
I’ve only really ever used vaultx binders which have worked nicely when the sets I’m collecting are of a more reasonable size, and don’t need expanded capacity.
I’m imagining I need a binder that can have pages added to it at will, something like a d-ring? But open to any style!
I’m looking for a binder that will fit 1 of each of the current available Pokemon with the ability to expand it in the future if necessary. It also shouldn’t damage any of the cards. It should fit cards in it within sleeves, but not toploaders.
first off, i just want to say that having a dex binder has been the best decision i’ve made for focusing my collection into having a purpose that is fulfilling. it constantly forces you to care about new gens and cards that come out and be excited for special arts of pokemon you normally wouldn’t care about.
as for some suggestions based on what has worked for me:
suggestion #1 - don’t lock yourself into the vaultx brand.
there is nothing unique about them. most side loading zip binders are close enough in quality.
suggestion #2 - 30 page 540 pocket 3x3 binder for gen 1-4 (you can find them on amazon)
you have some extra room to have duplicates of some of your favorites or variants if you want to do that
you can use the standard 20 page 360 pocket 3x3 binder for gen 5-7 and another for 8-9 (currently tbd if it’ll work for gen 10)
suggestion #3 - plan ahead.
personally, i like to keep regional variants within the same section as the region they’re found instead of going back and reshuffling past generations once new variations come out.
One binder per generation is good - especially with 360 slot binders, you can have a lot of leeway organising certain cards as they’re each under 180 Pokémon e.g. 2 sets of gen 1 in different eras (WOTC & newer), 2 sets of gen 5 with different rarities (regular & full art/AR/SAR)
I think this is the most important part of any binder collection but is it really a binder collection if you don’t have to shuffle everything for a rev holo you missed in gen 4
