Pokemon collecting mentioned in The New York Times

Quite a positive article overall: www.nytimes.com/2018/03/23/your-money/trading-cards-investment.html

"Younger buyers are driving card collecting in a different direction. A first-edition set of the 1999 North American set of Pokemon cards with the top grade recently sold at auction for $98,000.

‘The market has changed in terms of how the youth is involved or exposed to it’, said Joseph Orlando, chief executive of Collectors Universe, the parent company of Professional Sports Authenticator. ‘For a whole generation of millenials, Pokemon was a game with universal, global appeal.’"

Nice

What a nice read. I like how willing a lot of people (and some of the right people, especially Orlando and the PSA people) are to usher us in. I figured there would be some sort of elitism (“They’re just fictional characters,” etc.).

An estimation of $10mil for a PSA 10 '52 Topps Mickey Mantle. WOW.
