Pokemon Evolutions XY Booster Box Price

I noticed that Evolutions booster boxes are still selling at $100. The psa 10 charizard holo in that box goes for around $600 now. The mega charizard psa 10 is hitting $140. Even the psa 9 charizard holo is hitting $150 or more. The reverse holo zard psa 10 is at $250+ now. My question is, is there a reason the boxes are still selling at $100? Have they been discontinued yet? Do you guys think the prices on the psa 10s and 9s in this set will continue to rise at this rate while the box still remains at only 100 bucks? I get a charizard in almost every box I open (not sure if this is pure luck or they just printed infinitely with no remorse) and feel like it a steal after I sell it graded. Why is this that easy is my question? Im not complaining lol just trying to justify maybe Im missing something? Thanks!

My thinking is that there was literally a metric ton of it printed and the PSA temporary closure and recent price spike is causing a distortion. Eventually prices will go back into equilibrium. Most likely the price of those PSA cards is going to decline except for the ones that seem impossible to get a PSA 10 like the holo zard (#11) but even that one might decline. I wouldn’t buy into the whole “out of print” thinking with XY sets because of the Pokemon Go boom that caused a surge in demand for TCG products followed by a subsequent decline. Pokemon company prints to meet demand and I’m sure many dealers backed up the truck for this product when they saw the demand surge…only to be basically left holding the bag when the demand dropped. Evolutions could be at $100/box for many years to come.

So you could open a ton of it, send the good cards to PSA but the backlog is so long that probably by the time you get the cards back the prices will have already declined and you will have resulted in either break even or an overall loss.

If a box is profitable to open then people will absolutely open it to arbitrage the profit potential.

Evolutions is one of the largest printed Pokémon sets ever. There are still loads of sealed boxes around, modern pin boxes still have evolutions packs in them.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the boxes started to increase slightly while the cards started to decrease a bit.

IMO, the fact that it shows up all the time in recent bundled products shows that pokemon company has a ton of it still in their warehouse. They always dump the excess inventory into those bundled products.

That’s one thing you can count on for collection boxes… Unwanted packs from Evolutions. Steam Siege and other sets no one wants in their new collection boxes from complete different generations… Are they still doing this with sword and shield boxes? My guess is yes but I stopped following boxes because they are trash products generated around a promo card and jumbo

Pretty sure they finally killed off the loose ancient origins packs with the Kanto Friends mini tins. After putting it in every product for 3 years

I saw steam siege packs in a product released in May 2020. Looks like they’ve become more strategic with placing the pack behind another pack in the box so Timmy doesn’t see it until he gets home.

I was still able to buy full pallets of booster boxes as of a month ago. Can confirm there is still a lot of this set able to be bought at wholesale.

The newest Zacian V and Zamazenta V tins do include an evolutions pack  Also product images of upcoming collection boxes have clearly visible evolutions packs. No end in sight yet!

Is it too much to ask to lose the plastic binding that holds the promos and put in relevant packs around the same release…???

I’ve been selling AO boxes for $220 this week :face_with_spiral_eyes:

In the UK I can’t seem to find one that cheap anywhere. There around £160-£200 at the moment. I’d really love to pick one up for $100(£81 ) as I’ve yet to open a box of evolutions

It seems a lot of XY and maybe 1 or 2 S&M sets have had huge increases in boxes while the individual packs haven’t moved much if at all. Could be because loose packs are still appearing in random products. . Either way I would assume box prices will decrease or single packs would increase. Or both.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of people for better or worse bought Evolutions to sit on so there is still a large supply of it in the collector world as well distributors and Pokemon themselves having lots left over (as others have mentioned them putting Evolutions packs in promotional boxes 4 years later is a pretty tell tale sign that they have too much)

Everyone has at least 1 evolutions booster box sealed.

Demand will be always there, but high supply will dampen price increase at the moment.
