Pokemon Gamecube Games; Colosseum and Gale of Darkness XD

Hello Ladies and Gents, does anyone here remember Pokemon Colosseum and Gale of darkness for gamecube?

These games featured their own story mode and a VS mode which was essentially “Pokemon Stadium like” where you could upload teams from the GBA games to battle the AI with, the meat is obviously the story mode and was a bit untraditional in obtaining one’s Pokemon as they were caught from Opponents rather than wild encounters;
these 2 games featured “Shadow Pokemon” and they were the only one’s that the player could catch (aside from the 3 Snack Spots in XD) which afterwards the player had to purify in order to get  and were canon to the Handheld series in the sense that you could trade them from Colosseum and XD to Ruby and Sapphire/emerald post purification. Shadow Pokemon offered moves to Pokemon they could otherwise not get in the handheld games but only through Purification as reward.
for example a Scyther is rewarded Morning Sun when it’s purified, Zapdos Baton Pass and so forth.

these games were a bit more complex than the handheld counterparts in the sense that they featured more strategy; likely cause Colosseum featured Double battle only and XD mostly Double Battle only, i’d say like 99%.
the games were entirely in a 3D engine and off the grid rather than the 4 direction movement on the handheld games.
another thing to be said about them is that the music is amazing and very underrated, overall i think these games were 2 big gems that have seemingly been forgotten, and thus why i remind thy all!

now i’ve had some unlisted footage of both games on my yt so i figured i may as well add that to this thread.

Pokemon Colosseum (2003)

How awesome is starting with an Umbreon and Espeon duo!?

Loved playing Pokemon Colosseum back in the day. Not sure why it isn’t as remembered as Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. The gameplay was just as good imo.

I remember playing the hell out of Colosseum back in the day! That was my introduction to Gen 3. I remember the relic forest theme, where you get celebi with the bonus disc. That emulator looks nice btw @trainofthought!

The Dolphin emulator is indeed fantastic at the moment with all the extra graphics options it offers,
It used to have some kinks but i don’t see any issues with the latest iteration, colosseum is very playable on even the lower end of CPU’s.

Now XD i haven’t tested on a lower end system due to the fact dolphins version at the time caused massive artifacting regardless of system used.

Honestly i think colosseum has my favorite music
Beside gen2’s.
The game overall just had a great atmosphere.

I loved the games when I was younger! Spent way too many hours on them

Now those are two games I wish I didn’t sell, need to rebuy them soon. Hopefully we get a good Pokemon game for the Switch.

Hopefully not cause then i would have to buy a switch tehehe.

We all know how Nintendo and new consoles go .

Man, I loved XD. I played through it so many times, managed to even purify Shadow Lugia once. It’s currently on my Emerald, not sure what I want to do with it. I haven’t played Colosseum, to me it’s one of those cases where if you’ve played the sequel, there’s not much need to play the first other than story, but I’ve already watched lets plays of the game and know the story. I’d love a sequel on the Switch, but it’s kinda farfetched. The whole concept of the games was basically “Hey, we have these things called double battles now!” which are old news nowadays. An HD remaster would be cool, they could bundle the two games together.

Hehe, the double battle mechanics were utterly broken too, where you can kill up to 4 Pokemon in 1 turn because the switch mechanic doesn’t kick in after the turn ends but rather upon a pokemon fainting

And idk man, colosseum did have the far superior music :3
Dog trio and Ho-oh
Colosseum had better overal pacing and seemingly a higher difficulty i’d say it’s very worth playing if you haven’t…!

Love the lugia artwork associated with this gamecube and game. Really awesome

I have a mini collection shrine for this gamecube game at home, but i won’t showcase any of my collection until i am ready… haha

6:25 of that first video…uhhhhh

Not trying to necro bump an old thread, just curious.

I have both Australian PAL versions of these games, XD is going for $75, id it worth hanging onto it? I know nothing about collectable videogames.

I don’t know anything about collectible games, but if it isn’t lying in the way i guess they’d be fantastic to hold on to since they’re fun games.

The gamecube era wasn’t as iconic as the handheld lineup
So i’m guessing it’ll stay the same price for a while and won’t really do anything significant.

Then again i know nothing.
