People have been talking about the Pokemon Graded Card Market going up or down all the time, but its mostly a concept, there are no numbers behind it. How much did the market go down? We dont know.
I have been thinking on this since day 1 when I started TCGFish. Here I present my research results.
The question is simply: What does the ‘Market’ mean? Is there a reliable resource to show it?
Similar to the stock market, we want something that guides us where the card market is moving. We can say NASDAQ is 30% up in 1 Y, what is the % change for the Pokémon market?
Now I can say, the market, 1Y change, English card market down -33%, Japanese card market up 55%. the overall market is -10%. slightly down.
This will probably be my last research post for a very long time, I just don’t have the passion to build anything else anymore. my mission has accomplished.
As an aside, I’m curious: have you considered creating a versions along different card attributes? For instance, an index of how exs have performed, an index of how Base-Jungle 1st Ed holos have performed, an index of how e-Series crystals have performed etc.
Thank you so much for your work, I love the website and I really hope you don’t mind if I just drop one complaint here, I visit the site maybe once a day, and it feels like almost every day the logged session is gone, since you made the search only accessible to logged users after I search the select is displayed but it goes nowhere if I press enter so I log in, but since logging in doesn’t refresh the behavior of that component I end up having to refresh the whole page, searching again so I can finally go to the search page, the website is absolutely awesome but if this could be fixed, I (and maybe more people) would really appreciate it, again, thank you.
You’ve been doing amazing work since Day 1, and we all appreciate it! There’s nothing wrong with taking a break or stepping aside. Obviously, your updates and contributions will be missed, but life’s too short to grind through without passion and enjoyment. Either way, I am grateful for the site and how streamlined you’ve made data accessibility to the whole Pokemon community . . . especially to us boomers who struggle with spreadsheets!
Thank you for your sweat, tears, and possibly blood… I DON’T KNOW! I’m not assuming anything. It’s been a great tool to have and I’ve greatly appreciated the immense work you must have put in over the years.
