If you already havn’t taken a look at my collection, I have these Project Thunderbolt Pikachu’s that I bought for cheap, as shown below. My daughter saw them and wanted to play with them (I didn’t let her cuz I bought her a regular yellow Pikachu), so I decided to go buy another one for her to play with… Well the prices of these are ridiculous now and even for non-collectible items, I have always noticed that plushies from Japan have insane prices and do not understand why. Does anyone know the reason why they are so popular or expensive in Japan?

That company did a collaboration with Pokemon for a very limited amount of time, so those plush types are very rare and have gone up in price as a result.
Fragment Design collabs are always very hyped (see the ones with Nike for example).
The ones you have aren’t legit, though. Not knocking you, just letting you know.
Japan is also really into weird game shows, crazy vending machines, square watermelons, “Rent a cuddles”, elaborate toilets, raman noodle baths, cheese flavored Kit-kats, ice cream that doesn’t melt, baby crying contests, sleeping at work, crooked teeth as a fashion statement, blue traffic lights, rabbit islands, hikikomori hermits, and kawaii culture and the love of all things cute.
I think that kawaii culture might be related to the plush obsession. It’s their culture but it isn’t something that fascinates most Americans.
