Pokemon tcg trade reddit

Does anyone here try to use r/pkmntcgtrades? I usually lurk but whenever I look through posts, it’s people offering like 5 cents for NM WOTC cards, people spamming their terrible trades on everyones posts, people offering market price(NM) for gem mint only wotc holos, or people shitting on other peoples cards and providing misinformation(offering $10 for a HP shadowless charizard and saying that’s all the buyer could look to get because the buyer is new) so they can get a card for 20% of what it would actually sell for

I didn’t expect it to be a good subreddit but I also didn’t expect it to be a toxic waste dump lol

Of course there’s some exceptions and I’ve had a few awesome trades from there but it’s few and far between

I basically had the same experience as you and gave up

Reddit is usually a large dumpster fire that burns toxic waste seeping from charizardhustlerlightitup69cuz’s porta potty.

Honestly, I’ve only had one positive experience trading on reddit (the rest were a complete flop). Every other time has been on here through PMs or via Instagram. I don’t try on reddit anymore.

Are they still in business?

I’ve gotten some obscure Japanese cards and some good wotc cards from reddit but it’s always from redditors with like 0-5 trades. The trades are pretty chill with those guys and both sides are usually happy. As soon as you see that it’s a trader with like 20+ trades there then you should expect them to sell HP gold stars for 100+ and want you to dump off all your mint wotc holos for cheap lol

I’ve never used instagram for pokemon trading. It’s not a heavy scamming community hopefully right?

Surprisingly that sub is very active

surprisingly I have had a positive experience with that subreddit, even if I only check it every other week, I can find decent deals sometimes.
Whereas facebook groups or instagram, I was never able to make a deal there, not that I even try anymore. These plattforms are filled with assholes and ebay rejects.

I started using this subreddit for the last month and I’ve gotten 4 trades so far completed and all went smoothe. I mainly just posted pictures of cards for sale from my binder and picked up a few other cards for cheap from another person selling, so for me personally I haven’t minded it so far. But I have seen some of these users with a large amount of trades trying to shark noobys or act as if their offer is legit even if it is 50% value just because of their trade rating. I mainly just ignore these people and do what I can. It’s a decent spot to sell and not have to worry about Ebay fees or buy without paying tax, but I’m sure there are many toxic people throughout, you just gotta sift through them, but it might not always be worth it!

I have been pretty successful with buying certain cards, but overall the sub is not so great.

As a buyer it can be a goldmine at times but as a seller it is pretty terrible(but also hilarious to see how hard people try to shark you)

I’ve gotten that on my new platform, IG. Do they really think they can put one past King Pokémon lol

BTW, after 6 or 7 weeks, I’ve just hit 1000 subs:)

If someone is seriously attempting to shark you of all people, they have already proven how ignorant of this hobby they are hahaha. Also grats on hitting 1k subs!

I’d rather pay extra on ebay than any other “alternative” marketplace. Ironclad buyer protection. Filter the noise. Skip the bullshit of back-and-forth messaging.

I used Reddit a few years ago when I first started collecting and it wasn’t so bad, but I think it’s changed for the worse with the growth of the hobby. The listing format is an eyesore as Reddit isn’t optimized for sale posts, and the buyers tend to be bottom of the barrel (no offense) collectors arguing over literal pennies.

I agree with all of your points. I think that with all of the money and attention that pokemon card collecting has received recently, a lot of people looking to make a quick buck have joined in and diluted the community

Also I have literally seen threads where someone has a BIN of say $200 for a card that’s 35% off tcgplayer because the poster is trying to get rid of the card for some quick cash and people will respond with like “Hmm could you come down to $195?”

Love that Beatles album you posted

I used that trade sub a couple of years ago and had about 50+ sales transactions with no negative experiences. I’m not sure how it has changed since, but I don’t really deal with non-PSA graded items anymore (which I’d rather sell on ebay or instagram because it’s much less work).

I have I believe 8 confirmed trades on there (but have done more) and do check it once in a while still. I found that in general it’s okay but you will find the flakiest buyers ever (ask for odd pics and then never respond again) and the obvious low ballers (hey can I get that psa 10 zard for $16 shipped in a pwe so I don’t have to pay for tracking) but so far the transactions have gone pretty smooth for the most part. I did have someone return me a $30 modern card because when he got it he didn’t think it would grade a 10 when he got in hand (eye roll). It also came back with a Nick it def didn’t have before. What a massive waste of time for such a low value card.
