POP Series 8 'Cracked Ice' Reverse Holos

Hello everyone,

Wanted to run a question by the group. Currently on Bulbapedia there are four ‘additional’ cards to the POP Series 8 set whose origins are ‘unknown’

6/17 Cherrim Cracked Ice Reverse Holo
7/17 Carnivine Cracked Ice Reverse Holo
8/17 Luxio Cracked Ice Reverse Holo
13/17 Croagunk Cracked Ice Reverse Holo

Is it truly a mystery? I feel like someone would know.

Thanks!

I am not sure of the origin, but I searched Luxio 8/17 on ebay and saw several listings for the cracked ice reverse holo variant. I am guessing they can’t be that rare. Knowing that, I am sure someone will have info on the distribution.

Yeah I echo your thoughts eevee - would assume someone here knows more considering the [likely] relative abundance of them.

I’m quite sure these cracked ice versions came with some kind of a boxed product or a blister. I’ll try to look if I can find an example

Edit: yup! Indeed. Here:

Thanks @xzini, getting closer! That said, Bulbapedia does mention that is the origin of those particular POP Series 8 cards pictured (Chimchar & Riolu) here - bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Platinum_TCG_Series_merchandise#Trainer.27s_Challenge_Box

The other four still seem to be a mystery.

Probing the depths of the internet for more information, I stumbled into this comment from an old PokeGym thread.

“There was also Gliscor 4 and Flareon 4 from Rising Rivals. They came in special edition Christmas boxes at Target. Pop8 had Carnivine, Cherrim, and Luxio. Cnivine and Cherrim came with a booster and a pop pack. Luxio came in a pricey box set at TrU.”

I’m not sure what TrU is - but perhaps this comment will assist in locating the answer for 3/4?

TrU could be an abbreviation for Toys “R” Us?
