Preserving Endangered Media - The 2005 Master Kit CD-ROM And How You Can Now Play It

Hey all, I’m Alolantails! I love pokemon TCG media thats lost, obscure, or endangered.

A few months ago I was scouring this website for any and all lost pokemon media and came across this post

An endangered Pokémon game. This peaked my interest

I say endangered because there is extremely little coverage on this game. Theres only two Eliteforum posts I could find and a single video. There is also no way to play this game without owning the nearly two decade old CD

At least, not until now…

Let me quickly take you through my journey of preserving the Lost 2005 Pokemon Game.

Shortly after finding this post, i dug through the internet to find a copy of this CD. Every listing I found was over $50 which as a college student, I wasnt comfortable paying. I then came across a Japanese collectibles website called Suruga-Ya. On this website I found a legit copy of the CD for $15. I snagged it right then and there.

One week (and the purchase of a USB CD Drive) later and I have the game running on my PC

This was incredible! having a historic piece of endangered Pokémon content at my fingertips was an amazing feeling. But I wasn’t done there.

I figured out a way to dump the CD, to preserve this game so it doesn’t get lost to time once again. Below I have included a Google drive link that’ll allow you to download and play the game yourself.

lemme know your guys’ thoughts below as well as if youre able to get the game running. Im hoping for some tips on how to upload these files to archive it since archive.org is down

Thank you so much for this. I was hoping you’d end up dumping it. The best hope is most likely to wait to see what happens to archive.org and hopefully they get their issues resolved and get everything back up. Otherwise, maybe getting into people over at My Abandonware, since I know they already have some old Pokemon PC games up on there.

Now, time to see if I can get it running on Linux fairly easily. Otherwise maybe a Windows VM.

Awesome of you to do that. Im hoping to grab one with packaging eventually but the information on them is amazing. Going to grab it from that link once i get a chance.

Was able to get it running on Linux with CDEmu instead of using PpowerISO no problem. In case anyone else happens to be a Linux user.

I also got it working on ubunu

Step 1: Convert .bin/.cue to ISO

Install ccd2iso:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install ccd2iso

Convert to ISO:

ccd2iso pokemoncardgame.bin pokemoncardgame.iso

Step 2: Mount the ISO

Create a directory and mount the ISO:

mkdir ~/pokemoncardgame
sudo mount -o loop pokemoncardgame.iso ~/pokemoncardgame

Check contents:

ls -l ~/pokemoncardgame

Awesome!!! Thank you so much for preserving this CD-ROM

The only problem I have is regarding the Card List. It seems that inside the CD-ROM, there’s another installer to install an extra program to access to the Card Lists. However, when I put install, it launches an error message. Am I the only one this happens to???

Btw @Alolantails , if you’re reading this … If it’s possible … Can you make a guide of how to dump CD-ROMs??? … I have the Scoop Winter 2004 CD-ROM and I’d like to dump its data
