My last few 3 packs (1 of each artwork) I sold for 1000.00usd
Damm worth that much now eh.
I sold a Charizard variant last month for $450
To get a better concept of not only the current price, but the price trajectory I opted to bump the most recent one of these I could find. As this is on topic and in continuation it should be good to go by the rules afaik.
Anyone have any more recent sale points? Only current listings I see are both PSA 10 graded packs at 2k and 7k ask. Recent loose sales were a couple blastoise cover arts at auction around $1300 two months ago. A crazy jump from what everyone above mentions for May. @garyis2000 any recent sales on base 1st booster packs?
My reason for asking is that I have a set of each pack art contained in a “pony show” listing. I’ve bumped the price multiple times to outrun my perceived increases in price on these as they surpassed alone my initial “pony show” price from over a year back for the entire lot. I really am on the fence on these. I love having the sealed product, but due to the authenticity/reseal concerns the market may be having, I may opt to look for a trade towards high end graded base 1st cards instead of the packs. I know these to be 100% legit as I bought in a larger lot from a forum member and opened several to grade keeping only one of each art. I know going forward more and more questions will arise on these packs especially as the value rises and I’d just much rather have a safer value equivalent in a base set holo.
Sealed product is considered a cross collectible so in any case there is an added value to the cards within (avg. value + >20%)
It’s tough to evaluate the graded packs because historically PSA has done a poor job enclosing the packs properly. Folding the flap causes clearly visible wrinkles that in any other respect would be considered pack damage… so again pinning down graded pack value is a problem.
I see more value in my loose ungraded packs as opposed to graded packs for that reason and I don’t see graded pack valuations as being dependable or adding any premium to the ungraded. This not mentioning PSA’s blunder with the graded fake 1st ed pack.
The blunder really sets a problem with graded packs. At this point its better to get it loose so you can do your own verification.
If they’re boosters you can what I did and price them the same as blister packs. That was the easy way for me to ensure mine would be the last one off the lot.
The reason I didn’t tread deeply into the resealed booster instance is because it’s equally capable of happening in the circumstance of ungraded packs as well, but you’re correct it does pose the problem of possibly misplaced buyer confidence. Authenticity currently isn’t a significant problem though thanks to the counterfeit product awareness that this forum has brought… I’m just basing that upon my impressions though given that we at least haven’t heard of any new instances in the past month or so… thankfully.
@gottacatchemall I personally wouldn’t sell my mint packs for any less than $1,300 each. Granted I’ve not recently asked that much for them in any auction.
The recent 51k booster box seems to have sold or is no longer available, but maybe someone here knows of that result. I mention that because that factors into the individual packs value since packs are a subset of the sealed box market.
If the authenticity can be reasonably assured based on ownership history I don’t foresee that you’d have a problem selling them in the future. I think most people know you are a trustworthy seller and that’s a significant aspect of the value. And so I don’t personally see doubt of authenticity as being a significant game changer in the future since the few instances of fake product revealed so far have been insignificant to the big (market) picture. The effective impact of sealed product counterfeits is fewer and farther between as collectors knowledge and awareness rises.
