Price-Point for Actual Photo(s) vs. "Stock" Photo(s) on eBay

I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed with the amount of time that I’m putting into my eBay Business without ever “catching-up”! I’ve been contemplating changing one aspect which would save me A LOT of time and a decent amount of money over the long-term in listing fees - listing fees aren’t really my primary concern; however, it’s something that would definitely be beneficial in the long-term - and I was hoping to get some other opinions on how this would effect my business for the better or worse.

Currently, I list EVERY WotC Holo Card Individually with Front / Back Pictures of EXACT Card. I have multiple copies of majority of my “common” Holo Cards; so when one sells, I re-take photos and re-list with new photos. This is something that I’ve always believed in - and I believe it’s something that’s helped me “stand-out” amongst other eBay Sellers. However, the time-factor involved within this process has really started to negatively impact me where I’m constantly playing catch-up - limiting the amount of new product that I’m able to sort through / organize / photograph / list within my eBay Store.

I’ve started tossing around the idea of using “stock” photos on certain cards where I would use a single Front / Back Image and list multiple copies of said card within the same BIN Listing. The “stock” photo would obviously be of an actual copy that I am selling in the exact condition of said listing. I’m thinking that I will implement this on all of my Holo Card Listings below a certain price-point; but I’m not sure what price-point to use… I’m either thinking BIN of $10.00 or Less or BIN of $25.00 or Less.

At what price-point do you like to see pictures of ACTUAL Holo Card vs. Stock Images of Holo Card? At what price-point do you feel comfortable purchasing a Holo Card that uses Stock Images within Listing?

Few Points… I believe that I am VERY GOOD at grading cards myself - NM / EX / Played… And, my track-record on eBay has definitely supported that claim thus far! Additionally, if I do implement this system, I would not provide actual pictures to people who request them through eBay Messages as I believe this would kind of defeat the purpose of implementing in the first-place (saving me time).

I’d LOVE to get other opinions on this before implementing; as it would be a BIG CHANGE for my eBay Business - and I’m definitely a bit hesitant. However, I do feel it’s necessary to preserve my “sanity”! LOL

I think you should be good on $10 and up cards. One thing I would def do is autodecline offers. I remember I made a stupid offer on one of your cards and it didnt autodecline even at like 50%+ off

You should NOT be wasting your time on offers like that

With your reputation on eBay, you should be fine using stock photos. However… as a buyer if I have two options around the same price one with a stock photo and one with the card I’ll be receiving, I almost always would go with the one with actual photos.

That being said, if your only using stock photos for lower price point cards(under 10) it probably shouldn’t effect your sales a ton.

THANKS for the Input!

I’ve considered setting-up the Auto-Decline Function. However, I personally HATE getting Auto-Declined when submitting something I deem to be a reasonable Best Offer on something that I am looking to purchase - it completely turns me off from continuing any “negotiation” with that seller! And Surprisingly, I don’t actually receive that many eBay Messages / Best Offers when you consider I have nearly 2,000 Listings - all of which have option for Best Offer. I typically receive 25-50 eBay Messages / Best Offers throughout the day - and where I’m always connected to my Phone; I’m able to easily manage this aspect thus far.

Plus, my eBay Business is still my “baby”! Haha While this is definitely a solid point to optimize and save additional time; I have a real hard time giving-up anything that I can control myself - definitely something I’d consider if it becomes more of an issue in the future though!

Excellent question. A couple quick points first.

  1. set bin’s at the unreasonable level. Anybody under that aren’t worth wasting time on.
  2. if you go to stock photos, don’t show a pic of the back. It gives the impression that they aren’t stock.Plus it cuts picture handling time in half.

As far as your question, it all depends on what you can handle. I got overwhelmed at one time and decided to list nothing under 50 dollars. That got me out of my funk. You showing actual front and backs is terrific but a guy can only do so much. Asking this question and maybe making a strategy adjustment will serve you better in the long run;)

Just make sure the stock photo is accurate and you should have no issues. I have a big problem with sellers in Japan using stock photos of unlimited cards and titles which contain “1ED”… what is it I’m actually buying?
