Print lines?

Are print lines on early wotc holos only on the holo part of the cards? Or can they also be on the text? Would that be considered a scratch? I don’t have any example, it’s just a thought that came to my mind. Because would factory defects only be on the holo part of the card?

Personally, I’ve seen what I would consider to be print lines extend outside of the holo border of the card. I bought a collection of Neo Revelation cards recently and there were very consistent print lines throughout the holos in that collection, which based on my knowledge of where they came from was likely a batch effect. Only some had lines extend out the border , but to me they were very continuous and looked too straight to be anything other than factory damage.

print lines don’t care if it is holo or not, front or back. they’re just more noticeable across foil surfaces.

So they’ve been on text and commons too? Interesting

I have seen print/roller lines on the front/back of the card stock. I usually have seen physical roller lines more on early MTG cards, but have seen them on the odd Pokemon card as well. As others mentioned, it’s most noticeable on holos and the severity can also vary. For example, some print lines are easily noticeable while others you really need to get them in the right lighting/angle to even notice them at times. For example, my 1st Ed Charizrd has a minor print line under his right side wing that I could only find in bright light. Otherwise the holo is very clean for the grade:

On the other hand, lots of Neo era holos especially can have a ton of print lines which limits them to low grades and very hard to get PSA 10 on. Thats why Lugia and Slowking and Typhlosion 17 are very low pops in PSA 10.

I rarely see print lines on WOTC era cards, and have seen almost none that extend outside the graphic. In the nintendo era EX cards print lines are common and often intrude into the text part of the cards.

There are a few other defects in cards labeled as print lines. Like in Legendary Collection, there are quite a few Reverse Holo cards with vertical or horizontal print defects across the card which I see referred to as print lines. Example below
Alakazam

As others have mentioned on the backs of cards there can sometimes be straight scratches across the card. While it is much more common to only find print lines on the holo portion of the card there are cards out there with print lines through the text or the back.
