Hi all—I’m looking to buy the following with PayPal G&S. I’m in the US and prices include shipping. I’m interested in cards with strong centering but don’t care about the type of stamp with respect to 1st edition base.
Overall, your prices look like a very good starting point for negotiations. The fact that you’re open to collecting both thick and thin stamps will also give you access to a bigger pool of cards and make things a bit easier for you.
Most of your offers are in line with what these cards have sold for in the recent past.
I think your offer is low on Magneton. Sure it may not be the most popular Pokemon, but everyone still needs it for a complete set, and the population on that card is pretty low. The two most recent publicly-listed sold prices for it are $1,600 and $2,400.
Your offer on Blastoise would have been very good just recently. In the very recent past, however, the last 3 Blastoises I’ve seen have sold for $6k or more. Nonetheless, before the recent surge in pricing over the last couple of months we had someone here offer $4.5k for the Blastoise and they found a seller, so your offer certainly seems reasonable.
These cards are the backbone of the entire Pokemon TCG hobby. Owning them feels amazing and they’re incredibly investable in the long-run as well. Good luck!
Thanks! These 8 cards plus Charizard are what I need to finish the set in PSA 10. I’m saving Charizard for last =), which I know is the opposite of what is the best financial decision, but I prefer it that way thematically. If the result is that I can never get that card with all 120 of them stuck in collections, I’m not going to be broken up about it.
The last Poliwrath sold for $2.2k. Also, the last couple of Nidokings sold for $2.3k and $2.5k, which I consider to be roughly the equivalent of the Poliwrath in terms of value (similar popularity and population) so you will probably need to raise your offer a bit on the Poliwrath. I just don’t any PSA 10 1st ed Base holo (not counting Machamp) selling for below $2k right now.
You’ll probably need to raise your price on Chansey too. We have had another offer on E4 for $8k for that card and he didn’t get any bites on it.
I assume you’re referencing eBay? I actually picked up Nidoking here recently for $1.7k, and looking at the charts on pokemonprice.com, I think Nidoking has historically and consistently run a little ahead of Poliwrath. But I do like the card more than most, so I will bump the price a bit.
Regarding Chansey, honestly any offer on that card is probably nominal right now. It’s simply not available with that population, and part of my consideration for prices is based on how much I like the individual card rather than trying to complete a set for the sake of it. Could I force a Chansey out with something like $15k? Maybe? But ultimately, it’s my least favorite base set holo when considering the Pokemon and the design of the card, so I think it just doesn’t align with my interests to offer more for it than any other card I’m looking for.
How recently did you buy the Nidoking? The two Nidoking sales I referenced both occurred in mid to late April. Regardless, I do know that sometimes buyers find much better deals on E4 than they do on eBay, so I would believe it. I think your updated offer of $2k is solid and it wouldn’t surprise me if you found a seller now.
And yeah the Chansey is in a weird situation. Other than the one that was put on eBay a couple of weeks ago, there hasn’t been one publicly for sale in forever. As the lowest pop card in the set it’s just hard to pinpoint a value on it. So more likely your options are either to cough it up or get on a very long line of waiting for the card to become available.
I would describe the way I think about prices as looking at them as a range with the percentage chance of matching a buyer going up as you climb the ladder. When I think about what I want to pay, I think about how much I am interested in a particular card, and based on that level of personal interest, I’ll shoot for something relating to how likely I am to find a buyer. So if there’s a card that’s on my list but is low priority, maybe I just put the feelers out there to note my interest while knowing that the percentage of working something out is very low. Whereas if there’s something I’m particularly keen to acquire, I’ll push the envelope to increase the odds.
