Hey y’all, I’m starting this thread to document my purchases and ever changing collection goals as a broke college student. To give you some context, I’m a 3rd year college student who grew up on the BW era of games and cards and who has been a collector/investor/ previous team rocket reseller (now converted back to the light). Despite the fact that I am not making much money from my job, I’ve got a pretty ambitious goal of getting all the BW era secret rares and some EX full arts in PSA 10. With each picture added to the collection, I’ll add a little description of why I got the card and the actual significance that it holds. Feel free to let me know your opinions or just general input on the cards. Thank you!
With that intro out of the way, here is the first card that I purchased.
I chose this to be the start of my collection because tepig was my first starter in my first ever Pokemon game: Pokemon Black. Also, Next Destinies was the set that introduced me to the card game when I was about 8-9 years old. Overall the cards means a lot to me and I really like the art of this card because it shows Emboar being an absolute powerhouse (which he was during my playthrough). I bought it from BJGoldStarLegend for $2450 which I feel like is a fair price considering the card is 1/10, the print run for Next Destinies is really bad, and that I haven’t seen one of these go up for sale in years. I honestly think it might be a bit overlooked and should have some potential to grow over the years like Plasma Storm Zard and Dark Explorers Gardevoir have done.
That Emboar is a great pick to begin this journey with. I guess you could technically say it’s your starter, right?
God speed, this collection will take a lot of patience and $, but it’s definitely doable! I know that Emboar is an absolute pain to grade because of the lines around it showing on the back of the card. There are 2 different prints of the SR Zoroark as well, if that matters at all to you.
Thank you, I really appreciate it! I’ll definitely have an update soon, I’m debating what card to get next. Options atm are: Gardevoir secret rare DE, Blastoise Plasma Storm, Rayquaza DE, or the two gold full arts Reshiram and Zekrom.
The zoroark doesn’t matter as much just because I am not a big fan of the art in the first place, but I’ll definitely get around to it. Also the patience one is going to be hard but I’ll definitely just have to keep putting my paychecks towards them lol
Usually I’d say go for the expensive ones first before they grow any more. But they’re all expensive. I personally like the hydreigon and rayquaza best
