I have no idea if they changed it, but I just got up charged yesterday on a submission cause of a few 10s and I was shocked to see that one of my cards became a PSA 10 (was originally cgc 9) since the centering is is left heavy while slightly rotated.
In the end I still think grading is subjective to the grader. I’ll take the 10 though
Your Karp pictured has way better centering for example.
I think they’ve been doing this unofficially for a long time anyway. I’ve gotten a lot of 9s on flawless cards just because they’re a bit off on centering (but within 60-40).
Sounds like it’s just hit and miss and stupidly depends on the grader and if they have gotten laid that week. Bgs are pretty bad at centering too and it should be the one consistent thing lol.
Sadly hit the 9, gotta be the centering - still pretty happy with the grade but certainly going to send it to BGS as it’s so darn clean. Paid $400 for it so can’t complain
I’ve had mint cards with very similar top/bottom centering get hit with a 9 grade for the past few years, so if they indeed are now grading at 55/45, it’s nothing new in the past year or so.
I’m curious though if your order is being shipped back from NJ, or Cali?
I had 6 orders arrive in Cali all in the same box at the same submission tier ($13.99 TCG Bulk), yet 5 of the 6 were graded in Cali and did great, but one of the orders got graded in NJ and got wrecked. All Japanese eSeries E1-E5 non-holos and all from the same original source.
Just piling on that I’ve had some pretty brutal returns lately from PSA. I used to know what to expect for over a decade, but these last results are tough. A few that really stand out to me were this fan club porygon:
