I often browse the forum but never post but honestly the Pokemon community is a great one
I am contemplating getting one of the PSA 10 base set Charizard on eBay but as this would be my biggest purchase by 90% I just wanted to ask a couple things please.
Is there any way to know if a listing is a fake? The seller is someone with 50+ feedback but not a known member of the community. I assume he just wants to cash in on the crazy hype as he said he paid £1k for it and wants £14-15k now.
I am struggling to find recent sales data on eBay from the last couple months to know if its a good price. I was thinking that £10-14k is a reasonable price for one at this point, but I’ve noticed a drop in price in some things recently as the hype has cooled a little.
I guess what I’m asking is, can you trust eBay (for anyone that has bought a relatively expensive card), and whats the going rate for one of these at the minute
If this is not the best place to ask this or it’s been asked before then mods please do let me know
Check a seller’s feedback and account registration date. If the seller has <20 feedback, just be cautious, they may be new, or they may be scammers. Either way, you won’t lose your money, just your time.
Use 130point to check recent sales. It’s what I always do.
Be careful of your wording as you technically are not allowed to list want on E4 until you reach 50 posts
I haven’t researched this card myself, but I always see a guy on instagram offering his for $17,000. So my guess is that it could be in that ballpark, but I’m really just going off that listing number, which a lot of the time isn’t even accurate.
Yeah the ebayer seems genuine, I suppose it was more of a sense check of how other people buy from strangers on the eBay when it comes to what I consider a huge amount of money.
Thank for the link to 130point, and for the recent sale of 10k KingBoo.
I’ll sleep on it, he seems to be not budging from the 14k more which I think is too high but next year I could look back and think its a steal (or not) loool
The guy wanted at least 14.5k Euros which is around 16-17k USD$
That’s way past what I can afford, I would probably stretch to the 12k USD like you said but I think I’ll just have to be patient as hopefully PSA jam clears and a few hit the market.
However then I think the Logan Paul box break will hype it and the price rockets. Not sure what to think to be honest!
You can´t completely go off of US prices in Europe/UK as there is a 20% customs fee normally - so whatever the card goes for in the US +20% is fair market value in Europe, if you can get it cheaper even better
I think around 12k € would be a good deal for the card.
That is a good point about the customs charges, didn’t really think of that part. I have a family member in the US so if I found one I could send it there and pick it up in the summer when I go out there.
I offered 12k EUR but he declined so I said I will leave it for now - hopefully more come to the market or he will change his mind!
I’ve been checking eBay and 130point for “Base Set Charizard PSA 10” and I can’t find the zard that was sold for 10k.
Can you link me to that listing? Last I saw it was $17.6KUSD through PWCC back 1/27.
It is okay to make larger purchases than your last purchase. Thats one of the aspects that you are growing in the hobby. However, if you need that money, and you don’t have full trust that it will be profitable then you may want to hold off on buying especially if you believe there will be a cheaper opportunity down the line. I recently had to ‘bite the bullet’ on a high end card because I just couldn’t find a cheaper option and I trust that the card will go up in the short term and long term.
If you really want to know what covers you, I would recommend reading the eBay guidelines on buyer protection so you are fully educated on what you need to do if anything happens or for future large purchases too.
