PSA damage

Received a crimped shadowless holo today. This is now 3 out of my last 4 PSA holos that has had significant damage. The others were PSA 8s with creases.

:slightly_frowning_face:

What grade is it?

If it is high (8/9/10) then you’ll be covered under the financial guarantee and it would be fairly clear it happened after grading and before/during encapsulation. If the grade took those into account though then you’ll have to fight with them over whether it was there initially or if they caused it.

whoops! meant to attach a front photo. Its a shadowless hitmonchan NM 7. Purchased on ebay

I’m not extremely qualified with indents but perhaps PSA 7 is taking into account the indents? Is the rest of the card mint/gem?

I know creases knock it to a 6 max, maybe indents aren’t quite as bad in their eyes.

We’ve been seeing a lot of PSA causing damage to cards/poor grading on cards with huge, glaring signs of wear or outright damage. What is going on with them lately?

It looks like a 7 before the indents. Several surface scratches and vertical print lines down the holo. It also has a minor bend in the bottom right that isn’t part of the crimping issue. My main concern is there is no way I am trusting PSA with my high end cards until they get these kinks worked out. I have several hundred cards ready to be subbed and I no longer trust them with my cards. If one of my mint 1st edition base holos suffered crimping like this…I would not be okay lol.

I think you’ll get your money back without too much difficulty… The real tragedy here are those poor damaged Shadowless holos:(

I know man…it’s so sad. They shouldn’t a dun that. He was justa boy. Poor lil fellar.

My guess is that their sloppiness is due to the massive influx of submissions over the past several months. I would wait a solid 2-3 months to make sure this flood of admissions is over before sending in big ticket items for grading.

why do People keep saying “wait a few months” “wait till spring or summer” why do you think it will slow down?? What’s the evidence that this is a temporaray surge and not a new normal?

It might be a new normal but at the same time there will be more employees for PSA after a few months as they just opened up some job vacancies. With more graders and generally more workers sorting through packages, researching about cards, entering cards into the system and encapsulating, there would be less inconsistency

It’s looking more and more like the new normal. After talking to the seller I think I am just going to keep the card. He has had tons of returns lately from unsatisfied buyers. PSA cards. This is really upsetting to hear but I am not at all surprised. It’s not his fault so he shouldn’t have to take the loss. Plus he said he would just relist it and hope for the best. Meh. Unless something significant changes I’m just going to use BGS for my private collection…I don’t care if it costs more. PSA should not be this inconsistent. It will affect resell value but that’s irrelevant for me since I rarely sell. I just want my cards encapsulated and handled with better care than they can offer right now.

The evidence we have to go upon is past years and normal patterns of growth. Things back up during the holidays because graders aren’t grading as much. Things slow down toward the middle of the year because the holiday backlog is over. This is evident in the discounts that PSA gives during the spring and summer to encourage submissions.

There’s nothing to indicate that this number of submissions is going to be the new norm. That’s purely assumption.

Waiting may give new workers time to get better at grading, allow current and new employees to adjust to the surge in submissions, etc… Waiting may really do nothing but that’s what I come up with.
