Just a question for anyone who’s interested; how do you feel about half-grades with PSA? In Magic it’s usually BGS so getting .5s are normal for collectors, but haven’t seen many half grades for PSA.
I picked up a shadowless Zard at a PSA 8.5 & plan on regrading it if possible (hoping for a 9), but I just don’t see that many half grades on the market. Thoughts?
Personally not a fan. It’s down to consistency for me. They give out half grades quite rarely so it’s not something you see often enough for collectors to have many. Because of this I would always prefer whole grades. It looks better in my opinion when looking through my cards. I have seen cards that graded an 8.5 that come back as a 9 but also an 8 so up to you if you want to try for a regrade. Either way congrats on a great card.
Yea I haven’t seen many if every tbh! All of my Pokémon cards are PSA, all my Magic are BGS and I’ve just been getting used to no half grades when I search on eBay. I saw the Zard and for the grade was able to negotiate down which is an advantage, but very surprised it wasn’t just given a 9. Cheers!
PSA half grades are trash that don’t have any validity whatsoever. They aren’t repeatable. Any 8.5’s that are 9’s I regrade (and sometimes have gotten 10’s) and any 8.5’s that are 8’s I sell. The lower the half grade gets the more of a joke.
CGC and BGS half grades would repeat orders of magnitude more frequently because they are the result of an algorithm to calculate final grade from 4 subgrades.
as someone who doesn’t mind 8.5 grades, luckily this forum is filled with backwards logic that is rarely reflected in the general buying population lol.
“half grades not repeatable”? start cracking your 9’s and let me know what comes back then talk let’s talk about ANYTHING at psa being repeatable.
“cgc and bgs use an algorithm” and you think psa doesn’t have some sort of internal scoring system?
“the label throws me off” is by far the biggest complaint whenever this is brought up
y’all make me laugh I give you that
with that said, I think psa will even eventually introduce 9.5
The algorithm is based off the 4 subgrades the card gets, so it’s easier to understand why your card got the .5 grade, or any grade it receives. It throws people off because it seems to be done at random and is incredibly easy to rectify with re-submitting and most of the time they get a different grade(anecdotal evidence but I’ve heard this time and time again from others). The publics opinion reflects the fact that 8.5s from PSA are poison for sales prices.
I’m definitely going to resubmit the card to see if I can get a 9, both for the premium of a 9 + just having a higher grade obv. But I don’t mind the half grades as much, so used to them with my BGS magic collection.
hmmm thank you i guess? you said “half grades are poison for sale prices”. now ive only ever bought wotc holo 8.5’s (not any 7.5s or lower, not any modern) and in my experience every single purchase has been in-between the last sold of 8 and 9, making that my only perspective.
