Just curious if PSA changed the nomenclature of cards around these cert #s. Every card I have after 2353XXXX is Foil instead of Holo.
Those are two different cards, although the newer slabs renamed the #20 to just rev. foil instead of holo. I think that they were incorrectly labeled as the holos of the set, when they were just the reverse holos.
Ok…? Doesn’t really answer my question. Also the theme deck holo variant of #20 didn’t get put into PSA system until 2018 I think. It wouldn’t have the word reverse if they were just confusing it as the holo too as you speculated. Both those card certs fall into well beyond the presumed changed from holo term to foil term and are consistent with the labeling change. Im trying to confirm if the change occurred between 2351 and 2353. And yeah I have a lot of mislabeling from that set lol…
I found this Cloyster labelled as Reverse Foil (cert #2342). I just figure that PSA was all over the place with Pokemon during this time. It would seem that their consistency was dependent on whoever was working that day.
edit: this article with smpratte www.psacard.com/articles/articleview/9747/psa-set-registry-collecting-2003-poke-mon-skyridge-high-flying-issue also shows that the reverse holo crystals were labelled as holo reverse foils (cert #1469), but the regular reverse holos were just labelled as reverse foils (cert #1469).
(the newer slabs label the reverse holo crystals as just reverse foil (cert#2852).)
edit 2: Ludkins also has this reverse holo crystal labelled as just reverse foil (cert #2270).
so, they’ve gone from: holo reverse foil (cert#1469) to just reverse foil (cert #2270). and for some reason they started using reverse holo at (cert #2351), before realizing that it should have been just reverse foil (cert #2353). Honestly, I’m sure there are tons of overlap if we could see a completed set registry.
I’m sure that the way the ex series made reverse holos just confused them.
OK thanks. Doesn’t seem like it was standard practice then.
