What do you guys think of the Vault Launched by Collectors Universe ( PSA & Goldin ) ?

Unless I am out of the loop and unaware, Goldin is great for auctioning/selling higher end stuff and not great for selling cards worth 3 figures. This alone would turn me off using the service.
Goldin is creating a fixed price marketplace for vault items. Not really sure how it’ll do. May just end up being mostly overpriced cards like on PWCC fixed price.
I personally don’t get it why everybody has the urge to start a vault service even though they bring nothing new to the table. Correct me if I’m wrong but is there’s nothing which sets it really apart from the Ebay vault and there you can reach a bigger audience if you decide to sell your cards. It mightbe the right thing for high end stuff but I don’t see any real upsides in using it for ‘‘normal’’ cards.
On top of that I don’t understand why you would use a vault service across or even in a different country if you can rent a safe deposit box in your local bank.
It’s cheap and easy for companies to start a Vault service. Once PWCC proved the concept worked for trading cards, then it makes sense for any big players in the market to follow and create their own because the barrier to entry is low.
A big reason to use them is the insurance they offer is virtually free as they are counting on people selling on their marketplace. Another is that I’ve found it is easy to list cards, transfer cards, and ship cards with PWCC Vault. Also, you can buy cards with your vault address to avoid sales tax.
A safety deposit box doesn’t offer much other than storage. Having a decent safe at home is better and probably cheaper in the long run. I was able to purchase a large gun safe for only $300 a few years ago and I can store a huge amount of sealed and PSA cards in it.
I also think for them it’s all about creating their little ecosystem. A lot of people are loyal to the dollar and also to convenience. They’ll probably get plenty of customers even for no other reason than that they’ll grade your cards and then vault them for you for cheap or free.
It’s the same reason PWCC is partnering with CGC and BGS. The convenience of shipping your raw cards off and paying one price to have someone else submit the cards, vault them, and then auction them, will probably attract a lot of people.
eBay’s vault will have the convenience of being integrated with the highest volume card marketplace there is, and who knows how they’ll will expand it.
None of these services are for me personally, but I think there are plenty of people who will use them for one reason or another, mostly stemming from convenience.
Thanks for clarifying some of my misconceptions I had. I never used a vault service and probably never will store cards there as it’s a big hassle with customs if you’re from Europe and order your cards back. At least that’S what I’m thinking.
Im starting to get confused. So there’s a Pwcc vault. A eBay vault and now a PSA vault?
So what’s next month… CGC vault, Tcgplayer Vault, Troll and Toad Vault, BGS vault?!?
There will be a vault that stores your computer that allows you to access the high resolution scans of your cards that are stored in a vault in a different state.
Don’t forget the e4 vault Coming Soon: the E4 Vault
Thanks for many interesting replies. Myself tried to send something to their vault, I will attach the photos they took for reference for you guys (I sent the card from my PWCC vault to PSA Vault).
(above on is what shows directly on their website)
(Below ones are if you download the same pictures to your local machine)
The result was, mixed, the quality on their website for the pictures are much lower than I had hoped for, however if you download them, the picture quality is much higher. Also they didn’t bother to remove the PWCC sticker on the backside (Says in the packing instructions to remove stickers, so that might be my fault), but still.
Also added the page I get when it has been finally vaulted.
Things are still in beta from what I understand, so hiccups will happen, anyway.
What do you guys think?
Looks a little… plain. What’s the marketplace look like? Is it just Goldin Auctions?
