QotD: What would a 1/1 card need to have to make you collect it?

Today’s Question:
What would a 1/1 card need to have to make you collect it?

Helpful considerations: Special foil? Pulled yourself? Made of diamonds? Include actual pokemon dna? Psa11? Be part of an experience? Be cheap?

I would say Im happy to collect a 1/1 card at any time as long as 1) its in my budget, 2) appeals visually to me, and sometimes 3) has a unique point of interest. It doesnt really matter to me if it has quadruple unique errors, intentionally was made one of a kind, or even is a trophy. If it doesnt match my style then it could be worth a million dollars and i really dont care about it.

If my life depended on it. Nothing less.

It would need to be a card that I like. I don’t collect rare cards because they are rare. It must interest me in terms of the art, the Pokemon featured, or the story behind its release.

  • Feature something unpopular, like a stock Crasher Wake or Grumpig
  • Be supremely unattractive, but not in a way that appeals to eccentric tastes
  • No unique significance beyond the fact that it is 1/1
  • Foreign language
  • Minimal “this is cool because it’s rare”-hype
  • No “historic”
  • I’d have to go 14-22 years back in time to purchase it

Under these circumstances I may be able to collect it, though I certainly wouldn’t want to.

I think if it was in my budget on the lower end (because I feel skeptical about paying so much for something I don’t know if I could ever sell if needed), has my unique interests intertwined for Pokémon featured, and is a unique releass

The most I’ll spend on a card is ~$5k so assuming it’s within the budget then two scenarios would be

  • I need the card to complete some goal considering that I’m mainly a set and/or variant collector

  • I love the artwork of the card and there is not a cheaper alternative e.g. univ karp → web karp

Isnt the 2001 tropical wind in non-English or Japanese essentially a 1 of 1??

In which case the story alone would make it desirable for me, outside of the fact that the art is cute with chill vibes. :palm_tree:

I am genuinely not a fan of 1/1, unless it is a memorable card such as winning Worlds or whatever.

I feel like it would have to be something that I obtained due to my own merits or experiences, otherwise I’m not sure the rarity aspect alone would be enough to pull me in.

Slime and probably pulled by me since i have little hopes that a 1/1 pokemon tcg card would fit in my purchase budget

My face.

No-one else should have that unfortunate card in their collection.

The right price. Unique art being the major variable on price.
