I’m making this post as I am trying to get a rough number on how many of the “Pikablu” graded cards currently exist. So far I have located 6 unique certs with the Pikablu label, 4 of them from Southern Island and 2 Corocoro “white star” Promos.
If you search the certs on the PSA website they appear as “maril” so I’m unable to just search Pikablu in the pop report to find a definitive number so I’m not expecting to get an exact number yet if anyone is aware of any other certs that exist or can direct me to people that do that would be great, ill try to update this thread with more information I get. Also please let me know if I have neglected to cover anything or made any mistakes! I forgot to mention that I tried searching for a ANA Maril with the Pikablu cert and it appears that all of them are correctly labelled but I haven’t been able to see every unique card in its pop, only about 20/35.
I don’t have an answer for you but I did want to comment that I love finding these random old labeling differences. I’m still searching for a reasonably priced japanese ampharos with the japanese name Denryu, just for fun. Hope someone can help you get answers.
Just posting a quick comment with some updated info on Pikablu. I’ve recently had the opportunity to speak to someone who currently owns 5 Pikablu certs and has provided me with a large amount of information I think would be useful for anyone interested, some certain and some speculative. To start, they showed me the certs of all 5 cards they own and we now know that 03435205 (corocoro) and 03375492 (southern island) are also labelled as Pikablu which puts us at 8 documented certs with the name. I was also informed that they had seen a listing a few years ago for a Japanese Neo Genesis Marill having a Pikablu cert. Although they were unable to provide an image or evidence I do trust that this is true. On the speculative side of things, they also think that there may be around 70 PSA 9 and 20 PSA 10 Southern Island Pikablus to exist. As much as that is largely guesswork it does line up with the southern island Pikablu being seemingly more common than the corocoro one which are the only 2 cards we have documented information on. Under the assumption that the Neo Genesis Pikablu does exist and the fact there’s no documentation on it that I can find, it’s fair to assume that it’s very scarce and the fact that Japanese neo genesis released in the year 2000 seems to solidify that idea, yet it’s possible very few were graded before the confirmation of the name Marill in English.
Hi! I found this thread a few days ago after I talked to my girlfriend about the existence of a graded Marill card with the “Pikablu” description and started doing some research of my own. I have tracked down images of 7 Pikablu (Southern Island or Promo) and their cert-numbers are:
I haven’t made a post before so I don’t know how to upload images of these, but I see that all except 01436664 you have found already as well. This specific cert number was almost impossible to identify from the picture, so I had to do a lot of link-searching to test out various numbers that kind of looked similar (like 0 and 6 and 8) for some of the numbers that were unclear, until I found “Japanese Marill”.
Can’t say I knew this was even a thing. Cool to see though! Brings me back to kids calling it pikablu on the playground and other rumors about mew being under the truck.
I think for these kind of cards the value is just about what collectors will pay for it. It’s such a niche thing right now, if more people know about them and they are interested in buying them, then you’ll get a good market valuation I think. But right now it’s just the “greed” of the seller vs the depth of the collector’s pockets
Hey now, this is the whole market for slabs hahaha. Plenty of people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a raw 7 and a raw 9, me included (in large part due to the inherent subjectivity of grading)… but we’ll still pay three times as much for the 9 on the label!
There is one on the pwcc block this month. With this label being 05305687 and the last one posted by nirth being 05305689 I would say 05305688 is also a Marill pikablu card. I just looked it up on PSA cert vertification and it seems that 05305683 - 05305690 are all marill cards from Southern Islands. Must have been a good sized submission
Hey guys! A new auction of Pikablu up on eBay! I’m quite new as Pokemon cards collector, so I was just wondering what would be a reasonable price to get this beauty.
@taiga, i’d imagine a PSA 10 with the new flip from PWCC ends anywhere between $1.5 and $3k. whether or not the label is worth that much is up to you. it’s a super sweet card regardless.
@bbqcat Thank you so much! At least it gives me an idea on the price it will likely reach. That’s really a super sweet one indeed! I’ve got the full Southern Islands JP raw set (actually it’s still sealed), but I was curious to know how much the single graded cards were worth. It is probably easier -and cheaper - to make mine graded… lol
